Packaging

It might be my age, or maybe it's modern technology, but I'm finding it difficult to open almost anything from a simple bag of crisps to an economy bag of Haribo sweet, sour and absolutely indifferent toffees.
They all seem to be so well sealed no doubt to prevent me catching something that years ago I wouldn't have caught because I used to play out alongside the canal.
I find myself struggling, pulling with all the force I have against these hermetically sealed container until either:-

1/ I give in go to the kitchen drawer get a pair of scissors and snip the packet open.

OR

2/ Pull until my masculine ego is satisfied when the bag suddenly ruptures and the contents explode around the room.

Why can't we have easy open bags? I don't need all this exercise .

Watch out for next weeks episode when I ask why have they put a ring pull on cans of soup, is it to cover you in what you would have preferred to eat?

Sweetie bags etc are definitely getting harder to open.

Mind you the other day I even had problems with a satsuma - couldn't get my thumb through the peel to get it started! :(

Sweetie bags are easy to open. Just tear at the bit in the middle at the top.

Give the sweeties to some little 5 year old snot nose & see how quick they're opened. :)

Re: Packaging

I have loss of grip in both hands due to ulnar nerve damage in my neck.

I got a gadget from an occupational therapist which is supposed to help in opening twist top jars - it doesn't.

I couldn't survive without scissors. I ram the scissor points into the metal lid to break the vacuum seal so that the lid twists more easily.

Some products are worse than others. Those individually wrapped dishwasher tablets are really difficult for me to grip and unwrap - I now buy those that come in their own soluble clear wrap.

Margaret there's usually no need to get the scissors out. I find the easiest way to break the seal in a jar is to hold the jar firmly and bang the edge of the lid against a counter top or similar.

Of course this only works if you can grip the jar in the first place, which you may not be able to do.

I always manage to stain myself with tomato sauce when I pull the ring-pull of a tin of sardines.

With Jars I can't open I run under hot water or use a palette knife edge to break the seal. I can usually do them but some are tough.

I struggle with packaging a lot too!Vacuum packed goods or things in tough plastic packets especially.

I've switched brands of things often, in order to avoid things like that.

I find pop bottles hard to open. I bought a gadget that was supposed to solve the problem. It doesn't!
