Oh those were the days... years ago I made a pair of knee length Aran pattern hiking socks for a friend. Talk about multi tasking - I used to travel about an hour on the train to work and knit and read at the same time!

You clever devil Sue :D
the first thing I ever knit was an aran pattern jumper. My mother said she would help me. She lied! She hadn't a clue how to interpret the pattern.

Used to do lots of Aran once I plucked up courage. I found it easy once you'd done a few repeats of the pattern, the rest just seemed to follow. Then we all stopped wearing big wooly jumpers, haven't knitted for years.

My Mum got a pattern for a swimsuit from somewhere, and made one for my sister she was 12 at the time, she went in the sea and came out wearing ankle socks with shoulder straps.

It was around the time that song itsy bitsy yellow polker dot bikini was out, she's never lived it down.

I remember having one of those post war 'grandma knitted me this' cozzies.
I almost drowned at Scarborough because of it.

I'm wondering if this is enough of a thread wander to satisfy the originator of this thread,

As we're discussing knitting - perhaps it should be a yarn wander?

No, no ... Nazi Germany started after the Battle of the Teutoborg Forest in 9 CE. That's a 2003 year wander:eek: ... maybe that's some sort of record:D
