You are not the least bit amusing...and adding an emoticon doesn't make you or your post funny, either.
You are on the border of troll-land...putting a foot over then bringing it back.
If you think this will endear you to the forum, you are sadly mistaken.

Now, why don't you just go back under the bridge you emerged from.

Where were we? Oh yes speed dating. Perhaps you can come with that nice lady on here who let me know I had missed Ceaser off that posting, can’t begin to think how that happened????
I am attaching the details once again just in case you haven’t got it *grin*

It was originally going to be at the “Lesbian and Lump Hammer” in Leyland** but Accy Stanley Ladies FC had their Christmas party there and trashed the place!

But still at least she had a chance to read and respond before Mick the Mod deleted that post citing Rule 12:* All posts on the forum to be made in English. If you wish to communicate in a foreign language, please do so on the PM system, also PM=PRIVATE MESSAGE and all pm's are just that Private and must not be posted on the forum no matter how old they are or who they are from or permission has been given to post it.
As if real peeple would PM me !! how numb is that?

Where were we? Oh yes Speed dayting. Now listenup lads. The venue has been changed. Details attached, I’ll let Margaret and her pal know later. *wink*

What say we form a raiding party and sneak over there tonight with some paint and change the P to a T… What a spiffing wheeze eh? Margaret will have an attackof the vapours when she arrives I reckon.

I've got plenty of disdain to go around, you always take the part of the idiot newbie, oh come on give the guy a chance type person, as you are.
Well bless, good for you, I and plenty of others I suspect find him bloody annoying...

That's why he's always so nasty.
Humour surely is the sharing of times we laugh at friends, we laugh when friends laugh at us, but mainly because we had the sense to make friends with people before putting them down.

I have had friends because of that I can post Threads where I am the stupid one.
Take a look in the whole section of anything goes, the amount of threads I Start where I put forward a stupid idea.
Could he live with folk laughing at such an idea?

I doubt it, always someone else the butt of his laugh.

I find this person, not exactly offensive, but disconcerting, in the way he presumes things about me...like the comment on speed dating...while it might have been a joke......I don't think he knows me well enough to make those kind of assumptions about me.

Even on an internet forum I think you have to build some kind of rapport with people before you start making this kind of comment...or am I being too'precious' here.

Maybe it is the condescending way he talked down to us when he came on the forum.
Anyway......I don't like it.

Can we have a 'Don't like' button?
I don't feel disposed to like him just so that I can 'unlike' him(is there such a word as unlike?)

The ignore button, whilst, it may be suitable for some people, just makes for disjointed threads...like someone has deleted something.

Why did he require "sorting out", surely the easiest way to deal with a person you disagree with is to ignore the post, and move on the the next thread. If you respond with pith and vinegar does it not just make matters worse, or is that the idea to keep poking the thread with a sharp stick until a ban is imposed on the person who responds with anger.

Dave...to be honest I think the poking with a sharp stick and the vinegary posts came from him....yes they were vinegary, but subtly so.....to make everyone think he was just 'joking'.....but the malice(?)(sneering) was there.
I don't know why he posted on here. He obviously felt we were below him...without really knowing too much about us.
Having said that I do think you are right. He needed the oxygen of attention, and had we not responded to any of his posts, they would have died a death....but forums exist by people posting..so what kills him.......is also dangerous for the forum...especially if he has multiple threads going.

As your aware Margaret, AW hasn't seen much of me since October, yet when I returned, it seems to have lost something, Rindi was a very very big lose, which in the long term could have a big part to play in AWs future, whether that happens or not, I don't know, but you can't lose members like Rindi and expect things to go swimmingly on as before, in comparison, from what I've seen so far is, the site is much quieter than before my enforced absence

Re: Wandering off thread

I didn't agree with the thread starter, and I too found him to be a pompous poster, and I did not respond to his thread as a consequence, however those that did fuelled the responses and it escalated to defcon 3 in short order.
His postings were not the worst I have ever witnessed, some of the most vitriolic were from a poster who decided, when challenged, to take his ball and go home, and in contrast this ex-poster is almost at the point of being made a saint in his absence.
Should we not have a broad spectrum of posters, and not as I see it, poster baiting from any side.
To paraphrase, I don't agree with the poster, but defend his right to post. As is my right to ignore any post I want to.

Margaret Pilkington 26-12-2012 12:36

Re: Wandering off thread

I don't know that the ex-poster(forum member) is being made out to be a saint...he was human, like the rest of us....we are all capable of being bad, and all capable of being good.
I try to give posters the benefit of the doubt...most of the time.
Ignoring a post is sometimes possible, sometimes you get sucked in...and once in, you can find it difficult not to defend your posts. I have withdrawn from threads before in the past...but it isn't an easy thing to do.(for ma anyway)

I would never hope for anyone to be banned...because we all have something to contribute. Whether people agree with it, is another matter, but it does mean that the site is more interesting and varied.

Everyone is talking as if the guy has been banned forever, it depends what he was banned for, it may only be a couple of days.
He could be back anytime, maybe he'll adjust his posting so he doesn't quite get up peoples noses or maybe he'll come back twice as bad?
I hope it's the former, he isn't without intelligence just seems to dislike the site and everyone on it, somehow puts across that we aren't good enough for him.

No, Garinda ain't a saint and no one said he was. He was, however, sometimes interesting, sometimes funny, sometimes idiosyncratic, sometimes infuriating, but never boring. Jaysay's right, the forum is a quieter place without him, but Garinda's his own man. He didn't keep threatening to leave like certain big girl's blouses on here, he just decided he didn't want to be here and walked. But, Jaysay's right, the forum is a much quieter place without him.

But, never mind, let's all be polite and pleasant and logical and lovey-dovey to each other. Maybe we can exchange knitting patterns, as we watch the tumbleweed roll past?

Well isn't that typical?

Magically as real members move on because of the, lets be fair winkers, erm' I mean newbies that want to take over, the site has to pay extra for graphics of a tumble weed!

But, never mind, let's all be polite and pleasant and logical and lovey-dovey to each other. Maybe we can exchange knitting patterns, as we watch the tumbleweed roll past?

I'll swap my tank top pattern Wyn for your cardy/sweater:D

Oh those were the days... years ago I made a pair of knee length Aran pattern hiking socks for a friend. Talk about multi tasking - I used to travel about an hour on the train to work and knit and read at the same time!

the first thing I ever knit was an aran pattern jumper. My mother said she would help me. She lied! She hadn't a clue how to interpret the pattern.

Used to do lots of Aran once I plucked up courage. I found it easy once you'd done a few repeats of the pattern, the rest just seemed to follow. Then we all stopped wearing big wooly jumpers, haven't knitted for years.

My Mum got a pattern for a swimsuit from somewhere, and made one for my sister she was 12 at the time, she went in the sea and came out wearing ankle socks with shoulder straps.

It was around the time that song itsy bitsy yellow polker dot bikini was out, she's never lived it down.

I remember having one of those post war 'grandma knitted me this' cozzies.
I almost drowned at Scarborough because of it.

I'm wondering if this is enough of a thread wander to satisfy the originator of this thread,

As we're discussing knitting - perhaps it should be a yarn wander?

As you know, I’ve had an absolute spanking from the moderators on here for some of my posts, I now know what it must have been like to be locked in a room with Cyril Smith back in the late 60’s. Anyroad, the upshot of it was as I was encouraged to take a break for a few weeks.
On top of all that Wandering Walter phoned saying “Look D you have no friends on Facebook, the postie wasn’t exactly tested delivering your Chrismas cards, Mick the Mod doesn’t return your calls and there’s only Bumble, and Dave Salmon tweeting you from Accy. And then he goes and dies on me so what with arranging his funeral and with feeding my geese time has just flown.
Let’s just see what 2013 brings us.

Where were we? Oh yes how did Gambler Caves get their name?

.. I am having difficulties embracing the concept of a people wending their way up onto Moleside just to toss a few coins, surely there were enough shibeens and late night pub lock ins in the olden day Accy for this to happen in more salubrious, secure and comfortable surrounding? I can’t imagine the “rozzers” going up there either, easier pickings in the town I woulda’ thought.

It was a dark and stormy night. Sergeant to rookie Peeler “ Get thi’ cape n whistle lad and get thi’sen up to Gamblers Caves and catch some badlads and put em’ in’t pokie, toot three times if you need help”
Rookie to Sergeant “Why Sarge, what goes on up yon?”
Doh !

The story I heard from Wandering Walter was: A lad called Zebediah who was a degenerate gambler lived up on Moleside with his brother Obadiah. One day (sometime after Obadiah's mother died of unknown reasons), Zebediah considering himself on a "lucky streak"; played a game of Russian roulette right there in the cave and on the stone slab we Woodnookers and Mr C thought was a sacrificial altar his luck ran out and he shot himself in the head right in front of young Obadiah. That would explain the bloodstains Mr C. This trauma caused Obadiah to lose all of his hair and go bald and shaped him for years to come.
