Re: Please vote for our club

Well....I would have voted, except you have to leave your email address and log in........I am very wary of stuff like this, because in the past when I have done something like this I have been inundated with spam.........I don't really want to join a site that I am unlikely to use again.

Re: Please vote for our club

I appreciate what you are saying but there is a facility on this site to avoid receiving unwanted emails...please reconsider your decision as all votes are really wanted...Grange

Re: Please vote for our club

You really should be able to vote for these things without having to sign up........they want your e-mail address...and they may pass it on to other companies in the group..or worse, sell it on.
I know that this sounds petty and cynical, but it happens.

Its an advertising campaign so yes they want your email address.

It looks like you can vote using facebook as well :D

Yes...well, I am not a user of facebook...so I reckon I won't be casting a vote...however good the cause is.

And that is the the reason why I have more than one email address.

My first gmail, I signed up to facebook with it. I viewed it today. 3000+ emails. All saying "invited to join... commented on, commented this that other" I turn off the notifications(of which does not seem to work for me) and still get inundated... so I left that email to facebook hehehe..

It is a right old palaver to have to register and log in just to vote....and whatever the good cause is, it should be possible to vote without all that. I'm sure I won't be the only one who is dissuaded from voting because of this.

Re: Please vote for our club

Even worse when they say register or sign in using Facebook/Twitter to access this information or post a comment, and there's no other way. That happened to me today.

Sorry Grange but like Margaret I won't be voting - good luck though (if that doesn't sound a bit two-faced). :rolleyz8::sad8::pwub:

There was a competition on Amazon recently for some bit of gadgetry....anyway I fancied my chances and was going to give it a go........when I went to the appropriate page it was clear that there was no way to vote if you were not on Facebook......I complained, but the reply I got was the equivalent of 'like it or lump it'.
It left my feathers a bit ruffled...but I hate facebook with a passion.

No Rob.....I can only think of one use for facebook...and it is that of a (greedy, shallow) bad example.
Maybe it is a generational thing....and I'm of the wrong generation.
I detest facebook.......and wouldn't join if they paid me.

Margaret I'm with you al the way on Facebook. Richard had to open an account years ago because the then secretary of his bowling club decided it would be a good way of communicating with members. That lasted about five minutes.

I occasionally look at his page just to remind myself how crass the whole thing is - he doesn't use it but some folk he knows send him things all the time and it's such rubbish.

So you are not alone.

I am glad to know that there are people out there who can see through this social network thing....how insidious it is........and I know that there are people out there who will tell me it is just a tool, and that any tool can be used for either good or ill.
It is just a tool that I won't use(and isn't the word 'tool' a euphemism/derogatory for something that is a bit brainless?)

I can't abide the concept that accruing internet 'friends' is like having real flesh and blood friends.
I have been invited many times to join, but have always declined.

I go one and now and then, but i know what you mean Margaret. There's a lot of it I cant cope with. Some of the things that people come out with on Facebook, are frankly embarrassing.

Re: Please vote for our club

My daughter used to be on, as a way of keeping in contact with her Uni friends...but she has not been on the site now for almost a year...she has the e-mail addresses of those people she really wants to stay in touch with and that is all that is required.
I think that younger people(by that, I mean those who are younger than me) set great store by knowing what everyone else is saying and doing....and most of it is irrelevant to real life anyway.
My only experience of Facebook(I even hate typing the word) was seeing the stuff on my daughters page...and her page was mainly about her professional stuff.
I don't think she misses being part of this social network..she can't fo or she would be active on it...and isn't.

Anyway we have neatly hi-jacked Grange's thread...for which I apologise.
I quite like Galaxy hot chocolate...now and again...back on thread now.

I am a saddo I admit, I go on a facebook group for people with Beagles. People arrange walks where they meet up and let the dogs walk and play together. Many of the people have become firm friends because of the regular meetings - usually once or twice a week.

They support the Beagle Welfare rescue charity which is where our second Beagle came from.

At the moment a group of volunteers have spent 12 days searching for a missing Beagle in Dorset. One of the ladies is from Kent but is in Dorset with her dog because he has had a lot of success tracking and finding lost dogs before. People who don't know the owner are out searching. Many people have donated money to be used as a reward and to pay for accommodation for the lady out tracking. Last time I looked the donations were more that £700.

This is not the first time I have seen people looking for lost dogs they don't know. They were out searching in Warrington a couple of months ago and Nottingham recently. Both dogs were found.

I know this has nothing to do with the thread but now you know 2 uses for facebook :D

There is only one person on my facebook that I have never met. I have known her as an online friend only for 15 years since we used to chat and file share back in the direct connect hub days. I might have 2 people come to think of it, her and a Canadian fella from the same place.

Well, Neil...you know that old saying...'the exception tests the rule' you have to be that example.......and if it proves useful to you then that is good.......from what you say it sounds like you are doing a great job...anyone who does good things to help animals is OK in my book.

Re: Please vote for our club

My friend paid for me to see Gary Numan(hes the fan) and I made a bootleg recording with Mindisc(what I had at the time) and shared it on a website where people put share their recordings with others. A woman commented saying she also taped it but her recording didn't come out so good and that mine was better and she is a real huge fan of Gary Numan. Collector of almost all his shows....

A year or two later I was playing Farmtown on Facebook and got talking to somebody on there that agreed to add me as a friend and so we could do each others harvesting in the game etc etc. So I got talking to her and she asked where I am from blah blah. I told her and somehow got on subject of guitars and stuff. Her husband played guitar. So I said what music do you like. She said Gary Numan. Conversation led to the conclusion that she was that person from the concerts website. Such a strange coincidence and I made an online friend there on Facebook rather than the live concerts website.
