Hello, That's new!

Similar to the rest of you, I'm sat with windows open, enjoying the warmth.

A new, (by new I mean new to the street, not new, it's barely roadworthy), ice cream van has just arrived chimes going twelve to the dozen.

The guy driving it may have been enjoying too much sunshine perhaps for a couple of reasons,

1/ He's very dark, not even sun burnt but dark.

or

2/ Why would anyone have their chimes set to, 'I wish you a merry Christmas?'.

What was the name of the ice cream man from 70`s who called the raspberry sauce blood, he had a funny shaped van, a bit like this one and I think he blew a whistle instead of playing a tune -

That would be the one from Huncoat. Was it Birtwells? Our dog knew the whistle and went bananas till she got her ice cream.

Here in the 'bottom end' we have a daily visit from an ice cream van that looks clean and well maintained. The driver is 'pale' and plays Yankee Doodle Dandy.

I don't find it annoying. On the contrary it gives me the chance to see more of the local children as they form an orderly queue.

Many of the children aren't 'pale' - in fact there are several who appear to have mixed and pure blood carribean origins (and one or two who look 'middle eastern'), and they happen to be the most friendly - I am on first name terms with several of them.

There is no better way to become acquainted with neighbours than to show you don't mind their children playing nearby - in fact I enjoy watching them play and have said so.

It is amusing to see how they have modified the rules of cricket to suit the restricted area of the communal lawn.

Seeing such a multicultural assortment of children all playing together has restored my faith that cultural integration is quite likely possible if adults stop indoctrinating their kids with their own prejudices.

Kinda like you moving to the Bottom End, eh.;)

Remember when the Clayton village idiot moved to take up a job in Ossy? And the average IQ of both places jumped by 10 points:D
