Sat here minding my own business, a guy opposite me gets a call on his mobile, he answers it, then says give me a moment.

I thought he was going to perhaps wander off so it could be in private.

No, he wanted to stand up and roam around the room letting everyone know his half of the conversation, backwards and forwards he wandered, getting louder then softer.
I haven't seen this in about ten years, why please tell me, do some people insist that a mobile means when they get a call they should wander, rather than just move somewhere more private?

It was by the way a boring conversation, not one bit of scandal.

After a tiring day a commuter settled down in his seat and closed his eyes.
As the train rolled out of the station, the young woman next to him pulled out her mobile phone and started to talk in a loud voice.
"Hi sweetheart, it's Sue i'm on the train'
"Yes , i know it's the 6.30 and not the 4.30 but i had a long meeting"
"No honey, not with Kevin from the accounts, it was with my boss".
"No sweetheartheart, you're the only one in my life".
"Yes, cross my heart".
Fifteen minutes later she was still talking loudly, when the man sitting next to her, leaned over and said into the phone
"Sue put that phone down and come back to bed".

Sue does not use her mobile in public anymore.

I pace about when I'm on the phone. I can't just sit down and talk.

I never answer my mobile unless I'm alone and can see who's calling, though. Even then, I let the voicemail take it if I'm busy.

A friend took his young son to York on the train the other day and the journey was ruined by a woman travelling to Leeds holding forth in a loud voice on her mobile phone. Somehow we used to manage OK before we had mobile phones! Can't say I'm a big fan of them myself! There's a lot to be said for being "phone-free" when you're not in the house and not in the office!

There was one on the Blackburn Bus from Accy Friday morning, even more galling was her phone didn't ring, she rang someone n then proceeded to speak at about 90 decibels, she was still at it when i got off the sodding bus.:( is it a woman thing or what? by the way she started the conversation before the bus left the bus station.

How's this. I went to a full-on Catholic funeral a while ago, the church was packed. Before the service commenced the Priest asked everyone to turn off their phones, which to my way of thinking they should have done anyway without needing to be asked.
Just as the service started, and after the Priest’s request re phones, a late arrival rushed in and yes, you’ve guessed it, right in the middle of the service just as we were all quietly thinking about the lady no longer with us, this man’s phone rang - loud ringing tone - and it seemed to take him ages to stop it. Not good.
People can be so thoughtless.

On a lighter note, I got him indoors a phone to use in case of emergency. However, he won't take it with him - and has only used it once to ring me. I was in the lounge-room and he was in the kitchen. He said he just wanted to see if it worked. Silly b......

It's strange how we find someone on a bus talking on a phone wrong but it's ok for 2 people sat together to be talking. What's the difference?

I have had many a happy time listening to old girls gossiping on the bus...it is just so galling to have to get off before you know what the ending was.

I'm not a great fan of the mobile phone. I have one - it is in my handbag, switched off.
I think that a mobile phone is for my convenience...not someone elses.
I only turn it on to phone for a taxi...or to let himself know that we are on our way back from where-ever I have been all day...and these days that is usually hospital.
Most of my calls will last no more than a minute.

Cos two people talking on a bus is usually in normal speaking mode, This silly cow was shouting, perhaps she had phoned someone a fair distance away? EVEN You should understand that un i think.:D:rolleyes:

Do you have to shout on a long distance call on a digital phone? I think the other answers are right, you're just nosey and annoyed you couldn't here both sides of the conversation :p

when I answer my mobile and im out and about I normally speak quieter into it .. cos I don't want everyone to hear what im saying .. then its a case of I cant hear you speak louder .. it normally ends im down accy what do you want ... normally its im parked outside your house and I wanted to see if you wanted a lift to asda/Tesco ....:D

I only have a mobile because its a case of If no one can get in touch wi me .. then they panic ... plus it has all my emergency numbers in .. first ones in the phone .. which has been handy many time ...:D
