Roy Smethurst R.I.P.
 

Very sad news. For the past few months Roy (known on Accrington Web as claytonx) has been battling a brave and courageous fight against cancer. Sadly, Roy has lost the battle.

Originally from Clayton, for the past number of years Roy has lived in Burnley where he was an esteemed and valued member of the community, being much involved in local affairs.

Sincere and deepest sympathy is extended to his widow, Beryl, and their family who have supported him with love and devotion over these last awful months.

Rest in Peace, claytonx.

Dotti says that Roy was originally from Clayton but I seem to remember a lad of that name in the 1950s going to St John's. He had a sister called Joan and lived somewhere at the back of the Odeon - Cobden St/Mason St/Castle St. I remember Joan better than Roy. She will be mid-70s now. I seem to think she was a redhead. How old was Roy?

My hubby thinks, and stands to be corrected, that Roy Smethurst played in the Clayton Mount Pleasant School football team in the mid to late 1940s. Frank Drinkwater( Enfield CC player) from memory was in the same team.
