February
Have I got it wrong all these years?
I'm sure that we used to pronounce it differently. Yes I know how it's spelt, but didn't we back in the day pronounce it as FebUry, not I suppose too much of a difference but I need to know, all the adverts seem to pronounce it differently to how I was taught. Am I wrong, have I spent years pronouncing February in ignorance without emphasis on the 'ruary' or are we just being used to show how clever advertisers are when they want us to change our language? I suspect as with other adverts some smart arse wants us to think we've been wrong all this time. |
Re: February
I pronounce it the same way as you Less. Have done since I could speak 74+ years ago.
Until I read your post I never thought of it as anything else. And I can spell February. |
Re: February
Always taught to say FebRuary, likewise WedNesday ..pronounced Wedunsday.
However, drawings never pronounced as drawrings. I think it's a southern thing! |
Re: February
Feb'ry ... sometimes with the slightest hint of a "u" ... but for me, no "u". But who give a flyin' frigg what you call this sonofabitch'n month. Last week temps in the -40s; and as soon as it warms up a bit, 55cm of snow. And let's throw in some 40kph winds to make sure the snow forms immense snow banks on your vehicles. And how bad was it? Even Walmart shut her down for the day:eek: And I had to wait almost an hour for a pizza!!!! But I'm all shoveled out; so it's time to help out my neighbour ... an amazing guy, 83 years old and still truckin'. He's got a bottle of Jack stuck in a snowbank and when we take a break, it's warm enough (a balmy -6) to sit on the snowbank and chug 'er right out of the bottle and spark one up:cool: I'm starting to look forward to my 80s:alright:
