Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day, another commercially-driven event, is over and done with for 2023. There was a Valentine’s Day thread on Accyweb some years ago but I don’t think one has aired in recent years, unless it has been and gone without me noticing it. Just for a bit of fun and to lighten the atmosphere a bit I wondered if anyone has got a Valentine’s Day story to tell, either as a giver or as a receiver? Better still if it’s one that went wrong. Did you get one this year? Did you give one this year? Here’s a story from me, apologies if I have already related it somewhere else, but I’m old and I forget.
In the bloom of early days I wrote a love poem and put it in with my husband’s lunch. Correction, I actually put it IN his lunch, well I put it between two slices of bread to be precise, thinking he would check what I had packed for him and he would be quite overcome. Didn’t work out very well, he nearly was overcome as he was talking when he started to eat what he thought was a regular sandwich and my love poem almost choked him. He was not happy. |
Re: Valentine's Day
I have never ever had a Valentines card….well, no I lie.
I have had one, but it was one I sent to myself. I got a workmate to write it and one of the Reps (who lived in Cheshire) to post it. It created a whole lot of trouble when it arrived. My other half wanted to know the ins and out of a crows bum….who had sent it, how had I met this person…you can imagine it. What made it worse was that I put it on the mantelpiece and left it up there for over a week. He kept taking it down and I kept putting it back. Eventually I owned up and said someone had sent it as a prank…I did not admit that the someone was ME! I still haven’t had a Valentine! |

Re: Valentine's Day
Thank you Morejoe.
I have not suffered from lack of self esteem by the fact that I have never had a Valentine. My life doesn’t revolve around anyone else’s opinion of me. I know my value and my worth…..so it bothers me not. My sending myself a Valentine was just to see how my other half took this….and I really knew what his reaction would be….and it was funny to see (except he did not think so) |

its nice to get a card ... someone is thinking of you and has gone to all the effort to make one or to buy one and write it and give it to or put it in the post .. its special .. |
Re: Valentine's Day
Jen, you are right. Getting a card IS special for all the reasons you quoted….and at some point when they are no longer around you can look at what they wrote and it brings back memories.

Re: Valentine's Day
I don't do cards of any kind, still aint even opened last years Xmas cards. It must be a generation thing, i belive that even a text or call should have the same sentiment...to do it shows you care. And anyone reading this should ýou send cards, blag Marg P because she does it for a good cause.
