Bra Straps

Does anybody else have a problem with bra straps that wont stay in place no matter how tight they are the buggers always end up falling down, it's so bloody frustrating. If anyone has any fantastic tips that keeps them in their place please let me know...or am I the only one that suffers from this?

Check that you are wearing the correct size of bra. I know it sounds daft, but if you have been wearing what you think is the correct size for a while now , you may be surprised. Nip into M&S or Debenams, they have a free fitting service and double check your size.;)

Your talking about measuring boobs not rocket sceince , but for those less enlightened read below.

Measuring your bra size
To ensure you wear the correct bra size here is an easy guide to measuring your correct size. Follow our easy steps: -

  • Step 1

The first measurement is your Underbust or back size - measure tightly around your ribcage, just under your bust in inches, this will give you the band measurement of your bra size eg. If the underband measure is an even number add 4” . If the underband measure is an odd number add 5”.

This will tell you what size underband to choose. Eg 32, 34, 36 or 38.
  • Step 2

Next measurement is your overbust or cup size. Measure the fullest part of your bust line.
  • Step 3

Now you need to subtract your underbust size measurement from your overbust measurement, this will give you your cup size, see chart below
The difference between the overbust and underbust size in inches**:

Inches__0 1 2 3 _4 _5
Cup Size A B C D DD E

http://www.knickerbox.co.uk/images/shim.gif http://www.knickerbox.co.uk/images/brameasuring.gif **This is only a guide but if you would like to get measured by one of our expertly trained staff visit any Knickerbox store. http://www.knickerbox.co.uk/images/shim.gif The Importance of Fit
Any problems with fitting a bra can easily be solved by changing either the band size or the cup size, or both. Many women wear bras with the band too loose and the cup too small. In general, we suggest that if in doubt, you take a cup larger than you would normally. At Knickerbox we do everything possible to ensure consistent sizing, however, please note that size and fit will vary slightly between underwear styles and fabrics

http://www.knickerbox.co.uk/images/shim.gif Further tips on fitting your bra properly
  1. If the breasts are bulging over the bra - go up a cup size, and down a band size.
  2. If the bra rides up at the back - go down a band size.
  3. If the straps are digging into your shoulders (the straps are having to do all the work because although the cup might fit, the band is not tight enough) - go down a band size and up a cup size (this will give you a tighter fit around the body, with the same cup size as previously).
  4. You need to ensure that the front band on the bra sits flat on your chest plate if underwired, if not – go down a back size and you may need to go up a cup size.
  5. You must ensure that the underwire on a bra does not dig into the breast tissue at your underarm, if this happens go up a cup size, and down a band size.

Sorry to bring an old thread up but saves on a new one:D

Just its worth reminding ladies to do a periodic measurement check, i hadnt realised i'd been crushing my rib cage under the boobies till recent when experiencing bad pains there altho not bruised but feels like it, then discovered the possible cause of incorrectly fitted bras, what fitted fine a few months or years ago now isnt the case, especially if u lose or put on a bit of weight & changes as u get older. What looks right might not be what is right, wishful thinking or not but eventually catches up with u :D

Learnt mine the hard way as per usual as i was a way off mine tho a good excuse for shopping LOL!

My mum was very round shouldered and had to tie a piece of tape between the back of the straps to hold them on her shoulders.:)

Yeh, Accymel, know what you mean about body change ... was 34B for years and years, now find 34D ! .. when did that happen ? Still a 10 sometimes 8 jackets on the shoulders, but fastenings can pull a little .. blouses gaping, etc.

The measuring services are reasonable good, but have learnt always best to try them on before buying .. pain in the backside, but well worth it.

I love all the colours that are available now and the way it doesn't matter anymore if the straps show under a strappy dress/top; hate those clear plastic straps.

Not always u can try them on before u buy but yeh see what u mean as even tho im right due to variation in manufacturers some fit better than others in same size bain of all womens clothing so i may have to go one up again depending on style/shape/make.

True .. couple of year ago, set out on a bosom campaign to get better bras .. was measured, but on trying loads and loads, (proof in the pudding so to speak) finished up with some C, some D, and one actually E ! says on the label so must be true ..:D .. best fitting bra ever though and most costly :(
To the eye the cups all look the same size to me.

Like us women know however, manufactures don't appear to work from the same tape measure, do they ?

You get shows like that on TV! I have to go to the store and buy the magazines. Just checked the listings; nothing on the tube tonight except hockey and reruns. Dammit!

I'm not a big breasted woman either, but I've been thinking about it lots, ever since puberty.

You count from the 34 to 36 so it's 2 inches = 34C :)

Always easier being male, we stick to inch measurements, doesn't need converting :p

Not arguing .. did actually agree with an added post, however, I looked on the internet to see what the experts had to say, and, eh Presto ! Look at this Mel .. no wonder we can go insane sometimes :-

1st opinion

then this:-

2nd opinion

Afterthought: after all what's .44 cms between .......... Think I will let the fellas fill in this blank, no prizes for best answer..

If you convert 36" to cms, becomes 91.44 so slightly borderline

Still say best to try 'em ... like the bit where it tells you to bend over and drop 'em in, then stand up .. a new revelation to me now .. :D

Haven't you always done that Katex? It's the only way to ensure a proper fit.
