16 and cannot find a job

I'm 16 live in accrington and am looking for a job anywhere in accrington. I am struggling to find somewhere where a person without experience could work. I am willing to do most work and should be most capable.

I am hoping an employer of some sort will get in touch or maybe someone can give me suggestions as where to try.

Thanks Ste.

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

Are you looking for a full time or part time job?

What are you interested in?

A few more clues and someone here maybe able to help or point you in the right direction.

Good luck.:)

superbowl tends to be a good place to start - they do take on 16 yr olds

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

Well I think i will be going to college during the days so i will be looking at part-time evening and weekend work. Not too fussy about what type of job as I am doing it to get the money to help while attending college.

Thanks Mani, I will ask.

Thanks Garinda, much appreciated :)

Ossy Mills advertises jobs instore, including part-time ones which may fit in with your studying.

Just a note. In the future your c.v. will be much more impressive to future employers if you've shown the initiative to find work whilst also studying. All the skills you'll gain will certainly help you in the future in employer's eyes.

Once again, good luck.:)

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

I went around alot of shops yesterday,

Home and Bargain
Netto
Bowling Alley
etc.

Just all the typical stores in accrington and none of them are taking on.

Does anyone maybe know a store which is taking on which i may have missed.
I tried ASDA about a month ago and i got a negative reply, is it worth trying again?

Thanks Ste

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

As mentioned petrol station and also bars / pubs (glass collecting ;) ) and also food outlets such as Greggs are worth trying.

Ste469 26-07-2006 15:13

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

The bars and pubs i have tried all prefer 18 year olds so I stopped considering them.

express gifts starting to recruit their christmas staff and they do an evening shift there so get yourself off to the job centre in the morning.

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

What about a working mens club glass collecting, they usually take on younger people, or working on the market helping set up and pack away stalls.

The Asda were advertising in the paper last week, it may be worth reapplying.

Hope you manage to find something.

Have you had a look in the JobCentre? Not always reliable, but its worth a look if your that desperate for work, Have you considered an Apprenticeship? I assume your a School Leaver? Keep your options open, you could get a part time job and go to college also?!?! I know Accrington is not exactly an oppourtune town... /me runs and hides* hehe... Im sure you'll find something in the end ;)

That's exactly what i'm doing I am going back to BRGS and doing my A levels. But want to work part time. I thought i had posted this. sorry if i didn't.

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

Course there is good old McDonalds.. my son worked at the Whitebirk one whilst taking his A-levels, and must admit, was well impressed with their discipline.. no grey areas .. national levels throughout ..periodic assessments.. rewards, constructive criticism and health and safety certificate to boot which will always stand you in good stead. A uniform too which saves you money. Always a few toys left over from their special meals ;)

Sorry but ASDA will only take you on if you are 18+ (Alchohol regulations etc) .... would imagine its the same for Tesco and all other supermarkets.

Recommend sending your CV to [email protected]

Believe there is a new Subway store opening in Accrington town centre.

I worked at Express Gifts a few years ago as a Packer and loved it, one of the best jobs I had... plenty of fun, frolics and banter to be had there... Don't put it down, money isn't bad and they are quite good with you.

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

If your willing for a bit of a bus ride there are temp crimbo jobs coming up at debenhams in Blackburn, pretty good pay for 16 years olds im moving up to 5 quid an hour in a couple of weeks and saying the lads at JJB only get £3.50 per hour its not too bad pay.

Have you actually tried the job centre? And try doing door to door in town centre. what ever the shop is ask.

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

Mate, I'm in exactly the same position as you. Exactly the same. I must have applied to about 15 places over the last 3 months and I haven't heard back from any of them.

Having said that, I can't work Saturdays but, to be honest, I'm willing to work evenings and Sundays (bank holidays, christmas eve, etc) or whatever else.

I've found it to be one of the most disheartening things ever. A lot of my mates seem to have just got jobs like that *clicks finger* and I'm left here struggling. At this rate, there'll be no Xmas presents for my family and mates this year. Think yourself lucky that you have a site like this available to you, mind. We don't have anything like this for Darlington.

All the best to you.

mallard 22-10-2006 22:54

Re: 16 and cannot find a job

Try hyndburn council for the bins or for street cleaning they are good jobs and there is a pay packet at the end of the week ...try it .

Good on ya!!! Everyone quite happy to have a go at youngsters that cant be a*sed working so fair play to you!

Might be worth trying the market stalls, basically a trip round town asking. Mcdonalds probs a good place to try as well as theyre generally taking on.

Hope you get something soon!!
