Can anyone help?
 

I'm writing on behalf of a polish lady who can't speak English yet but is wanting to get a start somewhere, preferrably in hotel work. She has been to agencies and she is working nights for a company called Strategy in Nelson which is very difficult for her to get to because she has no transport. Does anyone using this site work for a hotel or know someone who does that could get her a start? Her experience includes caring for the elderly in Germany and she worked in a hotel in Italy, working in the kitchen and cleaning rooms. She has filled in an application for the dunkenhalgh and I spoke to a lady there that said there are several polish speaking staff but we haven't heard anything since.

Any help would be really appreciated

to be honest with you Fra jobs in Lancashire are few and far between as it is, english people cant get jobs let alone other people

There is an agency in Blackburn which specialises in work for Polish people,Think it's called Barrow and Grundy,or She could ask at the polish deli along Accrington road at intack-they may know more.

Try the polish shop on abbey street. They have vacancies for all over the place advertised in the window.

I like Polish people, they seem to want to work hard. I think they're good for the economy. I can't find a job either but I dont hate the polish for it. The better qualified gets the job afterall, and I dont believe they'd accept cheaper than minimum wage if they had rights as british citizens. They just seem to have a good work ethic all round.

whose economy ?.... they work for peanuts and put decent british folk out of jobs and then take the ones that are available so we cant !!!

My partner works iwth a lot of Polish people -this is his experience-not his opinion:

the polish save up their money - then they go back to poland for at least a month at a time and spend that money they have earned here over there ( so that isnt too good for the British economy)
My partner gets 16 days holiday in a year plus bank holidays- ask for anymore time off - you wont get it unless it is an absolute emergency take any time you may need for a family emergency and you get your p45 through the post ( it has happened twice with english workers - damned hard workers at that )
BUT if you are Polish you can use your holidays up - and then dissappear after taking those holidays and come back and your job will still be there for you .(one worker left for three months after booking two weeks holiday and walked straight back into his job)
The Polish workers did work really hard whilst they were still on the agency books -but once taken on by the company - workload suddenly slowed down-One of the women has even been called an ignorant pig becasue she asked two polish workers - having a conversation in polish across her -to speak in english, which they can do pretty fluently.

Blazey just because i have quoted you doesnt mean that i am having a go - just pointing out the other side of the coin as it were.

i understand that the empolyers are pertly to blame for this but as are the polish workers because they take the liberties in the first place.

The place where i am working at the moment has quite a range of people. And the 2polish guys who work there are the laziest people i have ever met. The job is on a production line where everyone has one job to do before passing it on to the next person, but the polish guys just pass it on without doing thier job. I believe we should have more jobs for british people as its slowly killing our economy.

But didn't most of the jobs the Poles and others are now doing exist before the "great influx". They were then open to the people who normally live here. What happened and why didn't they take the jobs they apparently want so much now.

To be fair, I imagine a lot of these jobs are minimum wage which, if you are on benefits, you in all honesty cannot afford to take - has to be something wrong somewhere.

Its ok, I can understand your husbands views. I have worked with a lot of british people who couldn't give a toss about the job to the point you'd think they didn't want to keep it or get paid. Would be bit ignorant of me to hate every single person who was born in england though wouldn't it just because i've only worked with lazy people so far.

I dont care whether people want to speak in their native languages as well, perhaps thats because I go to uni with so many people from different nationalities that I'd be spending way too much time wanting people to speak english. Out of interest though, if a conversation clearly doesn't include your friend, why should she want them to speak in English? Does she get comfort from listening into other peoples conversations? Is she insecure enough to think they might be talking about her perhaps, or was she asking them just for the sake of it? I dont quite understand our need for people to speak english so much.

We're a nation that is lazy with languages to the extent we are known for simply shouting our own slowly and loudly in other peoples countries with the hope that just might make it easier for them to understand. People complain about foreigners not bothering to learn our language and yet many people go working abroad whilst travelling and they dont learn every language they come across, and i'm sure they'd still speak in English to their english co-travellers too rather than stumble along in broken .......... (fill in the language!).

I think we often forget how ignorant we actually are when it comes to other countries and their people, whether its in their country or our own. I cant speak any other language than english, just bits of french and spanish, not enough for a conversation. How many people on here ared fluent in a foreign language, and how many of those who are fluent are because they have foreign relatives themselves be they in another country or immigrants to this one? I think its highly ironic that we can whinge about people from the same country speaking to each other in their native language but we as a nation are known for our laziness with foreign languages, to the extent that they're going to start teaching them in primary schools with the hope that it'll catch on.

Not quite the same as going to live in a different country, and I doubt anyone who doesn't speak the language in another country would even be able to apply for a job or somewhere to live. Unlike us most countries do not waste taxpayers money having multi-lingual forms, they tend to stick to the official language of the country concerned. For a few years at least English will still be our official language and should be the only language used for official documents. I would say the same to any English person moving abroad as I would to those who come here. If you want to live in a foreign country you should be able to speak the language.

Blazey - he isnt my husband he is my partner - but that is beside the point-
he doesnt work with Lazy English people - and not all of the polish he works with are lazy ( 1 out of the 6 there actually works well):D

He drinks with his friends in our local - a couple of them are polish - i never said he hated all Polish. that was your assumption.

Oh and in a previous thread i seem to remember you saying you enjoy the student life very much, so why are you harping on about working with lazy english people and not being able to find a job?

It is a rule - written in the policies that English is the only language that should be used on the shop floor EVERYBODY signs these policies freely -they are not forced whether you be german swedish pakistani chinese OR polish etc you are expected to use english as your first language.
So she had every right to ask that they respect the rules english is not her mother tongue - urdu is - so it was a double insult to be called a pig - but is that okay - because, after all the person who said it was Polish.

i would encourage a cosmopolitan community - but if i moved to another country it wouldnt be to live as i do in england - it would be because i wanted to embrace the culture of that country and i would try my damndest to learn the lnguage BEFORE i went.

What is wrong with an English woman expecting the same from others ?

I'm just saying its very easy to say send all the Polish back to their own country to get jobs there and yet there are so many English people that can't be bothered to work.

I can't find a job, and its not down to lack of them, its due to none being available with the right amount of hours at the right time of day.

I'm not saying YOU are lazy, i'm saying the english race in general is well known for being lazy with languages, hence why they are none spoon feeding it to primary school children.

I dont care what language people speak to be honest as long as I'm not personally affected by it. I just think its rich that we complain about people not speaking our language in our country yet we are well known for just shouting our own language at foreign people in their country. Many a comedian has made jokes about it, it is hardly something I have just made up on the spot.

As I said, many students go live in countries on gap years without learning the native language. Many students choose to take gap years and cope fine without knowing the native language.

Students on gap years are not emigrating they are passing through. Totally different thing than actually emigrating.

How right you are big fella.
I have moved from the dizzy heights of Darwen to Spain.
All contracts in Spain are in Spanish and if you dont like it tough!
I have a bank account in Spain with Halifax Bank and all the correspondence is in Spanish and its up to you to translate the terms and conditions of that account.
Not snowing...not raining...quite warm..can have a smoke in the local bar...no council tax....no water rates....Love it:tongueout

therein lies the differance, like royboy says ALL contracts are in spanish, not many object to a brit not speaking the lingo, slong as you try,they love ya to bits, HERE they waste taxpayers more translating documents into foriegn tongues, so who's got it right.?
