The Oaklea Tavern has a vacancy for part time bar person. Details are as follows:

Fri & Sat night 8pm - 1:30am & Mon night 5pm - 11:30pm
Minimum Wage
Preferably female (5 male staff already)
No experience necessary, but would be an advantage
Must be over 18 years old
Immediate Start.

I may be the only one who is thinking this but introducing a female to a male dominated environment might sound like a way of making it look less like the pub is operating an equal ops policy but i think it'd be a bad idea to put a girl in a job with 5 men!

Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned, but I imagine that'd be quite intimidating! Unless of course there is actually more than 1 woman and you have just made it sound bad.

Up until last year when I got promoted i worked as an administrator in a builders merchants for 10yrs being the only female employed at the branch, this is a male dominated environment, and i haven't found it intimidating at all.

A lot of women actually enjoy working in a male dominated environment. I doubt that Jay will have them all working at the same time as there is usually a rota.

I have just started a temporary job at a warehouse otherwise i definately would have applied for this, been looking to get into bar work for ages but need full time work at moment to pay off my debts. Shame about the shift on monday starting at 5pm, if it was a later id apply for this as a second job. Good luck finding someone though mate.

god i used to love in a bar being doing it since i was 15, stopped just 3 years ago but it was my favorite job, nine years serving behind a bar, sounds a lot but loved it!

I said "preferably". And, yes there is a rota so they won't be working all at the same time.

I'm just pointing out that 1. it looks like its all males and not every girl wants to work in that environment and 2. its not a good idea to specify genders in job applications unless there is a better reason than the one your giving.

I.e if it was a carer job you may get away with specifying sex if its intimate personal care for a certain gender of person.

I dont think specifying sex works well with bar jobs though regardless of how many male staff you currently have. I personally wouldn't want to go for a job that specified it wanted a female because the work place has loads of men. I could cope with the number of men even if they were all there at once, but I'm thinking more along the lines of you'd repel certain types of people for specifying that and attract another sort that may not be so favourable...

Yes it's a bar job, just like any other job and people will still make claims of sexual discrimination against you, sometimes out of spite.

Better to be safe than sorry.

I would like to point out that there are two female members of staff & a female manageress.

Can i just say, that the lads at the Oaklea are the best lads ever and i count them as true mates they were all a pleasure to work with.
They are all great at the job but they need more women to keep them in order (and to clean the shelves, as none of the lads ever did it lol)

Dont forget though, Sue is always Mother but Kate is really boss xxx
