Here is a marvellous view of the Pot Fair that used to visit the town.
|
Hi,i think the photograph of the pot fair is very good.Do you remember the old
cemetary in Union St?it was part of the baptist chapel. That is now i think some social services offices. |
Just think. The chances are that someones great granny/aunt/uncle is in that picture. Do you see the bloke with his back to the camera, right above the "cc" in Accy at the left of the picture. Look closely. Then look at the young kid above and to the left, with his back to the stall............Are them two up to something dodgy or what?
In fact, it would'nt surprise me if it was the same pair who did the old dear in on Hyndburn Rd (See Posting).........I've a good mind to write to Inspector Plod at Accy Nick and tell him "Case Closed" on one of the most vicious crimes in the annals of Accy's murderous history. |

Hi George, I dont really remember the Church in Union Street. I do however remember all the sheeting around the churchyard when they were moving the "remains" - Here is a nice view looking down Union Street, towards the railway arches.

Peel Street, showing the "Clock on Legs"

Here's a nice view in Peel Street, taken in the 1970's. Arrgh! The clock on legs, the meeting place for so many people!
|
we would always meet under the clock, don't tell me its gone?
|
Littlemo, there is still a clock there, but it is not the old clock on legs. How many times did we meet our mates under that clock, to go to the New Era or get on the bus to the Sports Centre disco.
|
Well Lettie if you can remember them ' New Era ' and the Sports centre Disco you must be of an age with me
|
:bigglasse Depends how old you are Mik, I will be 35 again next month. Used to hang out at the Funnies disco on wednesday nights more than the other 2 discos, but I remember Sports Centre being on a friday night. Also used to sometimes go to Star skate over in Blackburn, on a weekend, or Bolton Nevada, if we could get a lift.
|
I will be 42 this year. Then there was the spinning Jenny Disco on a Thursday night. Also got to the mecca in Blackburn.Wigan casino once and the one in Blackpool.they had a free bus going for that one from Blackburn
|
Hey June,
You sure that piccy is 1970's? the style looks more like mid-60's to me.....as regards all the Disco's - could'nt dance then & can't dance now so while all you lot were busy wasting your youth jiving the nights away I stayed indoors with my stamp collection & a nice cup of cocoa.. |
Piccy of Peel Street
Mmmm, was only guessing at 1970's, still unsure .......

or the cats wiskers Lettie!

Yeah, It looks like the late 60's early 70's to me by the fashion of the 2 girls at the left of the bus shelters. And it could be me and the wife on the crossing, going up to Wardleworths on little Blackburn Road.
Funny ain't it, how we've come full circle, and the bus stops are back where they originally were and so are the market stalls. Costs a bomb to go round in circles, especially with a council like Accy's. Nice thread though! |
