new cafe
6 Attachment(s)
I was asked to take some pics of the new cafe so here they are:
thought you would like to know i was nearly arrested for taking them, the security guard said i need a permit to take pics in the arndale centre so i went to the town hall they checked for me and said NO you don't need one so i went back but they had changed guards and he said yes you do if you take anymore you will be arrested so these are the last im taking in there. the guard that said i need a permit is in the pics. |
Re: new cafe
He probably thought you were a Al-Quida terrorist making plans to blow up the Cafe Centro.
|
Re: new cafe
I cannot believe they threatened to arrest you just for talking a couple of pics. I have a dislike for jobsworths like the ones you encountered, but there must have been a change of policy as I have taken pics for relatives abroad and know there are a few websites with Arndale pictures on. I have a good mind to try my luck again this week and see what happens.

Re: new cafe
Is that the guy in two of the pictures? If it is I can see why he was upset at you, he's not working and wasting time trying to chat those ladies up.
|
Re: new cafe
thats the one hehe
should get a big group of members together with cameras and go in see what that will do |
Re: new cafe
My mates got done for trying to do a film for their homework in B/burn shopping center BEFORE the sept 11 attacks!
|
Re: new cafe
I think that security guard should be reported to Arndale management for being sloppy on parade (he's got his hands in his pockets) and dereliction of duty (he's obviously not paying attention to what's going on). Someone could have got in there and planted 5 bombs in the time it takes to take 5 piccy's from different angles.
|
Re: new cafe
See what I mean about the cafe looking cheap and nasty. I think we should all meet down there on saturday with our cameras just for the hell of it. Did you notice any signs anywhere Mick, to say that photography is not allowed?
|
Re: new cafe
What about opening a book on how long the cafe will survive? I say until September 30th 2004

Re: new cafe
I suppose it would make the new bit (the Pavillions) look nice if they did bomb it.
|
Re: new cafe
No lettie i didn't see anything saying NO PHOTOGRAGHS but to be honest i did not look
it just did not achere to me you would need a permit. |
Re: new cafe
I think the next lot of pics i take will be in Russia easy to take them there than in Accrington .
|
Re: new cafe
Did you see Growler in the Arndale, by any chance?
|
Re: new cafe
Never mind bombs and new cafes, some swine has nicked the damn clock! Arghhhhhhh! :blink8:
|
Re: new cafe
...hells bells Savo...where you been the last 4 weeks?
|
Re: new cafe
Never mind weeks. Check my location haven't been in the arndale for nearly 4 years!!! :rolleyes8
|
Re: new cafe
OK Savo.....just seen your location. If you want to see an even greater piece of wanton destruction, then follow the thread on Sacred Heart.
|
Re: new cafe
Think it tells you on the entrance boards to the centre that you are not allowed to take photos/video film etc.Don't know why but its been the rule there for at least ten years!
|
Re: new cafe
hehe not allowed dogs either, stupid rule! they let pigeons in!
|
Re: new cafe
in that case i will tie me camera to one of the pigeons and he can take the pics
|
Re: new cafe
What you need to do is find out what is not allowed, according to the entrance boards. If it is not "not allowed" then it must be allowed..
|
Re: new cafe
makse sense.
|
Re: new cafe
I should take my Easel and Oil paints in there and start on a piccy..."Sunset over the Cafe Centro"....or "Plant pot looking through Marks & Spensers back door" or maybe get really abstract and leave a blank canvas.."Clock in Arndale"
|
Re: new cafe
Do I detect a little sarcasm there...tealeaf??
You must know that no cameras or filming is a "security measure" to prevent terrorists gaining a planned insight into the corridors and passages (all 2 of them) of the Arndale centre. :ph34r8: :ph34r8: Don't let your guard down...they just might ban cameras in all public places....Pubs, Football Grounds....etc., etc. :beer58: Common-Sense.....let's ban that as well :ph34r8: :ph34r8: |
Re: new cafe
That clock in he arndale center (where the cafe is now) used to scare the hell out of me as a child.
i agree, we should swarm into the arndale center armed with cameras (50+ ppl) then see how security deals with that. |
Re: new cafe
Just thought you would like to know if you are in town and fancy a coffee then the new cafe in the Arndale sell coffee in plastic cups £1:60
|
Re: new cafe
What a rip off, wont be long before it closes down mick. If people are buying it then they have more money than sense.
|
Re: new cafe
How much does it cost in a real cup? A fiver?
|
Re: new cafe
My word! i thought i was getting ripped off @13p a cup at work!!!
|
Re: new cafe
13p is a weeks wages in China
|
Re: new cafe
For us outsiders that haven't yet seen this café - is it where the clock used to be in the Arndale? It's hard to work out from the photos exactly where it is.
|
Re: new cafe
Yeah....right underneath...but there might have a few problems shortly. The Arndale management have just announced that smoking fags is to be banned, - alongside taking piccys - within the precinct. So anyone wanting a quick two quid double expresso and a woodbine is going to be in serious trouble.

Hi Jo, hope I can "talk" you through this photo of Mick's.
Do I take it you have been here fairly recently? Imagine you have walked through Marks and Spencers, out into the Arndale. You would then turn to your right and head for where the clock used to be. See the glass dome, and you can just about make out four lights? Thats the area where the top of the clock would have opened. (Roughly behind where the two ladies are talking). The shuttered window to the left of the photo is actually New Look, you would of course turn immediate left there to get out to the Arndale car park. Help any? |
Re: new cafe
oo atarah put yer glasses on, its a feller & a lady // ha ha ha
|
Re: new cafe
Know what I find odd? I have been in the Arndale today, which is now a NO SMOKING zone and could see ashtrays and people smoking in that new cafe (which replaced the site of the clock) Apparently the Arndale is a NO SMOKING but .... if you go in the cafe, which is open on all four sides, YOU CAN SMOKE!!! ? ???????? er, what goes on here?
|
Re: new cafe
Utterly ridiculous isn't it?
I had originally assumed it was becoming a no smoking zone because of the cafe, how wrong can you be. Apparently the council don't have the power to make the cafe's owners enforce a no smoking ban in there. Am I right in thinking it's owned by the same people that have the other one in the Arndale? That seems to be opened up now, so presumably it's the same there? |
Re: new cafe
Its the same people that have the big cafe in St Georges centre in Preston
but don't know if you can smoke in that one i will find out next thursday |
Re: new cafe
And .. they have one in Blackpool too.
|
Re: new cafe
I think it's because the Arndale is privately owned that the Town Hall knows nothing about a photography ban because it is nothing to do with them. I was stopped from taking photos years ago when I'd already taken loads of the thing under construction.
It's a shame about the clock. It was one of our tourist attractions, along with the viaduct. People come from miles around to see that viaduct. The smoking ban is pointless if people can smoke in the cafe area. Can't the Arndale owners complain to the cafe proprietors that smoke is wafting out into public areas? |
Re: new cafe
Well i was in Preston today and ST Georges Centre is a no smoking area
and yes you can smoke in the cafe area which is a bit pointless |
Re: new cafe
Ban all smokoing in public places, they did in Florida no problems and more revenue.
