Was indeed a great pub way back then but my goodness what a dive it turned into as a night club:eek: Was in the Peel Park with Ian many years ago and didn't think we were going to get any "after time" so he had the bright idea of going down "Africas" or whatever it was called. Cost us a few bob what with taxis and entrance fee and I wouldn't stop, just got the one drink and went home. Turns out we could have stayed where we were as they just wanted to get shut of a few "strangers". As you can imagine someone was not best pleased:rolleyes:

I was dj there too before Tim, I aint seen him for years either, I worked there for like 10 years and loved it, everyone knew eachother it was like going to a house party, well I did when I worked there I was the dj who took the p i s s out of everyone all the time.

I have photos of the place I will have to scan them in, photos when they made the new dance floor and dj stand.

You couldn't expect it to be anything else but a dive....went to the opening night and there was nothing but wall to wall cops.....so much for an exclusive night......:D

Re: Afrikas

Afrikas was ace! it was a dive but it was OUR dive!

it was only really rough if you wanted it to be rough, most of the numpties left you alone if you weren't acting like a knob. They had to behave cos if they got barred from there they usually had nowhere else left to drink.

Hello to 'chelle and spot as well.

I had many a saturday night at funnies and dolly greys.fairly regular i was.it was excellent fun mid 80's until mid 90's but it got poor towards the end when it got too empty and was dead even on a saturday.some good times though.i remember that dj that told you to get lost if you asked for anything too alternative.

Re: Afrikas

lol @ Africa's.... I remember we used to go there when i was 16-17 because some of us couldn't make it past the bouncers at lar-de-dars. Proper **** hole 100% A place you surely have to keep your glass in ya hand in fear of it being stolen, spiked, knocked over or spat in. I remember the dance floor. More room to dance in this message box i am typing in. The beer resembled ****, though cheap for the time. Funny what cashman says is probally true that scotland yard have mug pics. I remember there was a lot of fighting outside that club and rumours of bouncers kicking the crap out of people all the time out the back

The place across the road was the old A.E.U. club, which in later life became Mr Millers.;)
