How do you like this photo? Husband has received it as part of his "good service" award from work. Done by a local artist. I think its lovely!

That’s excellent Atarah, Forgive me, but where can I get one.

Re: Peel Street

Hi, forgot his name for this minute, but its a Preston artist. Think they are about £32. Notice the old Hollands Pie van also in the painting?

Re: Peel Street

Excellent, Thanks Atarah, you will remember that my father was a driver back then.

Re: Peel Street

It's superb Atarah,

I'd like one myself...but all the walls are full of paintings, prints and old photos of Accy!!

I particularly like the fact that it's raining (or has been), makes it more realistic....for Accy.

Atarah 13-08-2004 08:34

Peel Street, rainy day

Yep, raining then, and its raining now!

Just realised, the guy has a website. Maybe he's not as local as I thought, but I was originally told he was a Preston artist, but .. his telephone code says differently!!!!

Take a look

He comes from Eastwood in Notts. I love the pic. Don't recognise the bright blue bus in the background though. What company was that?

mez 15-08-2004 19:43

Re: Peel Street

think they were rawtenstall buses

Re: Peel Street

I notice on the side of the bus an advert for 'Startips', they still make that.

Startips and Stardrops. My mother used to use the latter. I thought it smelled awful.

Re: Peel Street

Oooh, the old red and blue Accy Corporation buses, the paler blue was Rossendale (I think) The clock on legs, where I always met my friends. We used to laugh at people pretending they hadn't been 'stood up' under the clock on legs..

Could it be a Preston bus?

Tealeaf 16-08-2004 08:04

Re: Peel Street

Rossendale was red....I think pale blue was Bacup

WillowTheWhisp 16-08-2004 09:33

Re: Peel Street

That Preston bus looks very much like it. I don't remember seeing that colour of bus on Accy bus station back then so maybe they were rare. I thought the Rossendale ones were the same colour as they are now.

Re: Peel Street

I am pretty sure that it is a Haslingden Corporation Transport bus. Haslingden and Rawtenstall amalgamated in 1968 to form Rossendale Joint Transport Committee, but Haslingden,s pale blue and cream buses were used for some time after the amalgamation.

Re: Peel Street

I think Tea has this one right. The colour use to be on buses from Bacup. I use to catch one every week to go and see my Auntie.

Bacup...now there's a dead end!

JEFF 16-08-2004 15:42

Re: Peel Street

I don't think Bacup had their own buses. I am pretty sure it is Haslingden.

Tealeaf 16-08-2004 16:24

Re: Peel Street

Thinking about it, you're right Jeff.....the Haslingden buses were pale blue & cream....but the only route they ran was to Bacup, through Haslingden! The piccy is accurate in so far as it shows the actual bus stop for the Bacup bus.
However, there's something not quite right about the Accy bus leaving for Ossy...the Ossy bus stop was right behind the clock so any bus leaving from that stop would be coming out onto the zebra at at angle, whereas the bus in the piccy is square on. Just a minor point...it's another wise cracking piccy & I'm saving 50p a week for one.

Bazf 16-08-2004 23:29

Re: Peel Street

Your right T, the bus behind is at the Ossy bus stop no 19 if my memory servers me right but 2 at the same time never.

Re: Peel Street

I don't know about anybody else, but that’s a picture that brings back a lot of memories, I’ve would have done a few trips on that very bus.

Can anyone remember the Copper Kettle? I use to sit in there until the bus was ready to go and make myself sick on Milkshakes – Butterscotch, Yuk.

Darby 17-08-2004 05:05

Re: Peel Street

You could be right JEFF...time plays havoc with the mind. But I always got off in Bacup!!!

Bazf 17-08-2004 13:01

Re: Peel Street

The copper kettle always full and right next door to the toilets and of course the Willows Lane bus stop just outside, wow memories of Saturday afternoon being dragged around the indoor market, woolies, marks and sparks, the outdoor market then the copper kettle, jump on the Willows lane bus and home for the Football results.(no Accy Stanley in those days).
