i know most of you will know where this is but what was it used for ?
it seams strange the doors are so large and in the middle of a row of houses ? sorry they are a bit squewiff but i had been for a pint or two with less |

Certainly looks like the doors where built to allow the passage of heavy Haulage “High & wide goods”. Is their any evidence of foundry working in the area, Iron moulding or ow’t like that?, what’s the area like behind the building.

Oddly enough the OS map for 1891 shows the site as a vacant lot between the end house and the rest of the terrace. Might it be connected in some way to Coal or freight deliveries on the railway? There were extensive coal sidings on that side of the railway just behind the houses.

I can imagine fire engines there Doug but maybe it's the red colour which gives me that impression. |

i used to live near there many many moons ago, ive been racking my brains out , but the only thing i keep coming back to is a coal storage place, the doors have always been red, but they are not as nice as wingys NEW vestibule one is /// :p
