Not exactly an Accrington photo but may be ?

We were at Tyne Cot last year and took this photo of a headstone. Wonder if any of these were from Accrington ?

None of them are from round here.
18 men of the East Lancs Regiment died that day.
It looks like one of those burials of men who were able to be identified, but not found for some time after they were killed, and not enough remained for a separate grave for each man.
Retlaw.

That badge was adopted by the East Lancs Regiment when it was formed in 1882.
The Lincolshire, Glostershire & the South Wales Border Regiments also have the Sphinx as part of their cap badge. They or their former Regiments were in Egypt in 1880, having a set to with the Ragheads.

The daughter has some photos of Tyne Cot from their school trip, and of her laying a wreath at the Menin Gate, I'll badger her to put them on. She was really moved by the trip, very worthwhile , certainly focused her mind a little .
