From the look of the different building materials, and patch work, that date stone could have come from anywhere, and been used to fill a hole up, the pointing looks new as well.

Spoke to the owner who said it was correct. He said he had spent a fortune making it "Safe" so to speak as it was so run down that is why it is patched up....so no need not to believe him I think.

Its a grade II listed building....

Kate, I did that last night... none of them mention a 1766 date stone.

Should be Higher Antley Hall.

Is it down Fielding Lane just past the Shoulder of Mutton down the hill on the bend on the right?

The only listed building in Green Howarth is Lower Friar Hill Farmhouse - but the listing says the datestone is 1744...

Thats right...the pic is of the "barn" next to the farm house and is dated 1766, but the owner actually said the house was dated from the 1740's, so one assumes the house/farm is 1744 and the barn 1766..

well done

Thanks Phil... looks like English Heritage don't mention the barn in their listing. Thought your pic looked more like a barn than a house.

Would you believe I've only ever been up Green Howarth once in my life - and that was in the dark!

Would it be any better if I said that one time was to go to the pub - which sadly is no longer there.
