yucca plant
I have a yucca plant which is about 4ft tall. The problem is it bent over I have tried turning it so the sun will bring it back to straight but it's not working. I was wondering if anyone could tell if cutting some of the 'stem' off would kill it. at the moment the window is stopping it from falling over!

Re: yucca plant
Could you not use bamboo canes in the tub and tie the plant to them to try and keep it upright?

Re: yucca plant
Cheers for that I will try the bamboo first if that doesn't work I will cut it, though I am a bit worried that I will kill it off by cutting it.

Re: yucca plant
That's strange GC we had one that died at about 10 year old too but we took a baby shoot off it which has now grown to about 2ft in 2 year.

Re: yucca plant

Debbie, it would help if you stopped swinging on it .... :D |
Re: yucca plant
I have propogated plenty of Yucca. Depends upon the present height.
Cut it down to 10 - 12 inches. It should develop several side buds. The bend in your original plant cannot be trained out with a bamboo cane. Just in case the cut-down version does not prosper (might take 6 months), make use of the cut-off portion. Cut it into 4 inch sections and place each horizontal in new potting compost just under the surface. Then you'll have a lot of new plants to give away!? |
Re: yucca plant
Hows it go deb? mine died at the top, fell over, I over watered it I think after it being too dry. i held the top up with canes, it dried out strengthened its stem, put out lots of new side shoots and now the lead shoot has died back. What i want to know is can I take a cutting of it and how would I do it.

Re: yucca plant
Is it possible to cut a side shoot off and get it to root?

Re: yucca plant
My cat killed mine. She just loved to eat it. Would not give up despite threats of tail removal. Finally she knocked it of the sideboard and it broke into several pieces.
Tail remains. |
