Plastic adhesives: Bubble lamp.
2 Attachment(s)
Anyone know of a good plastic/acrylic adhesive?
What I am attempting to do is repair a damaged water bubble lamp. The original base to the lamp has cracked and allowed water to leak. So I have cut off the damaged base and I plan to insert and glue in a new base. Any ideas? .................................................. .................................................. .................. please note:The bubble lamp below is not the actual make of lamp that I own, it is similar in design to the one that I have. I am only using this particular image to demonstrate how my bubble lamp looks. |
Re: Plastic adhesives: Bubble lamp.
get rid of the accident prone bird, because no bloke would have one of them in the house, chuck it in the bin and say good riddance. You can make your own bubbles in the bath len..........lol sorry nettie

i know it sounds daft but ................ have you tried the shops that sell aquariums, they may have a strong sealent which will be waterproof.

I didn’t stagger into it and knock it over nor did I throw it at nette. It broke on its own accord, due to its age and the occasional movement off the lamp. Thanks mez, I hadn’t considered an aquarium shop, there is one in Harwood. Thing is, I don’t trust these DIY repair kits as they are usually naff. I know araldite do several types of adhesives. Perhaps I should try them. I think the standard araldite resin you buy from DIY shops may not be good enough. I’m a little worried that the resin may flake off a smooth surface thus causing a column of water to ditch all over my table and carpet. Hehe I know that I could always rough-up the surface a little before gluing but I don’t want to spoil the surface, well not just yet especially if there is a decent product on the market that sticks plastic to plastic and doesn’t need prepping. I was hoping that maybe someone whom works with plastic materials could possibly advise me on the best action and adhesive to use. |
Re: Plastic adhesives: Bubble lamp.
Plumbers merchants sell a very strong plastic adhesive for jointing and sealing plastic pipes, if it works for them maybe, it's what could work for you?
Otherwise chuck it in the bin and get another from the pound shop! |
