Decorating
Just had some work done and now have loads of decorating to do.
What's the correct way, glossing first then immulsion or immulsion first then gloss. |
Re: Decorating
I always find the putting the emulsion on first works better, it’s easier to wipe off the gloss if you over lap.
|
Re: Decorating
I always gloss 1st, don't need to be too fussy on the edges and if theres any slight cracks round the door or window casings gloss will will it, when you put emulsion on after any that goes on the gloss can easily be wiped off
|
Re: Decorating
I was always told gloss first then emulsion for the very reason K.S.H. says.
|
Re: Decorating
My dad was a decorator and he always taught me to gloss first then emulsion /wallpaper good luck ...
I wont let no-one do my decorating lol cus its my job haha |

Re: Decorating
Or spray paint the gloss........
always been told that 3 coats of undercoat to 1 of gloss is best for the very shinny finish to the top coat...... but that is using the old type of gloss (really runny when painting with it) not the non-drip type..... or if you have stripped back to bare wood then primmer, sandpaper down, wipe with thinners, undercoat, sandpaper down, sugar soap, undercoat, sandpaper down, sugar soap undercoat, sandpaper down, sugar soap then LIQUID gloss to finish. |
Re: Decorating
When Me and Anne was first married we moved into a bedsit that was near a pub .
I decided it needed decorating so got a mate to help me strip the paper off i did all the painting and my mate said he would help with the papering . So when he came back the next day we got started but by 12ish we decided we needed a break so it was off to the pub as the pub was only 2 doors away we kept nipping round for a pint back to put a sheet of paper up back to the pub Anne had gone shopping but by the time she got back it was all finished . we where smiling like cheshire cats when she came in and a bit drunk to say the least but we told her we have finnished . she said great lets see thats when it hit us out of all the room 4 peices of wallpaper where on the right way up:) I had to do the whole room again (on my own) The lesson dont drink and decorate unless you like more work :D |
Re: Decorating
:D that reminds me of a friend who put a border paper round the room 'by the rack of the eye' starting at one side of the fireplace but by the time it got back round to the other side of the fireplace it was about a foot higher!

gloss first, i never undercoat takes to much time use the total coverage stuff, oh and the first thing you should ver do is paint your ceiling first!!! then gloss then wallpaper;) |
Re: Decorating
I had an uncle that did painting and decorating for a living but that was how he did the gloss painting.
Not saying that how I do it LOL single coat quick dry non-drip gloss thank you!!!! Yes ceiling first then wallpaper and if doing emulsion onto paper do the gloss work to seal small cracks then finish off with the emulsion paint good luck misskitty |
