Oh dear!!

A warning peeps if you buy a toy for anyone keep the receipt!

I bought a doctor who tardis and a set of figures for my 8 year old for xmas. I didn't keep the receipt as I didn't think I'd need it. Unfortunately thats not the case, as an uncle with altzeimers has gone and bought the same for my son.

I duly took the tardis and figures back to the store and explained my dilemma. At which I was told 'no receipt no exchange (I didn't ask for a refund). When I pointed out that the figures were exclusive to the store the (I presume) manageress relented and said I could change the figures.
When I asked if she would do the same with the tardis she flatly refused saying 'you could have bought that anywhere'!

So my little'un will now have two tardis on xmas morn and think santa has gone daft!

So folks make sure you keep your receipts and don't end up like me.

You don't need the receipt, any proof of the purchase is enough to get a credit note, A copy of your bank statement/cheque stub will also suffice

I would kick up a big stink whilst the shop is full.

Soon get a refund, Credit Note.

NEVER take NO as an answer from some one who ISNT at hte top of the chain.

I tried that Mr D but to no avail! The woman was adamant and only exchanged the figures when I practically shoved em up her nose pointing out they were exclusive to the store.

Is there any chance your uncle would still have his receipt?

Re: Oh dear!!

Sara I thought of that but as he lives in Stafford and it would make him feel really bad I decided against it.

The store is on Broadway and is well known!

I know it's a bit cheeky but ring the stores up in Blackburn and Burnley, speak to the manager and see if they'll change it. (Just don't say Accrington said no.) If they are willing to make sure you get there name before going over.

you dont need a reciept though it does help thats what the office of fair trading booklet says, you can exchange the item without reciept and if the item was only avalible from that shop then you have a right to a full refund of cash depending on weather you paid cash or card,if you paid by card then you have proof of purchase from your debit/credit card statement, you dont need to have a reciept, have a look to see if the office of fair trading have a website i have a book called the office of fair trading your rights and its good if you can get hold of one (cab should have some)take it to the shop with you

Re: Oh dear!!

I emailed there head office and was told there was a policy for returns posted up in the store.

They apologised for my trouble but reading there policy I couldn't take it back as I have had it 29 days!

I'm almost certain my problem has been solved, but it does serve as a warning to others to keep receipts.
