Little bug(ger)s
To keep down mosquitos: build or buy a bat house (not a cat house which is still slightly illegal) and a purple Martin feeder: these little birds eat 2x their weight in moskies every day). Of course, you may not have a mosquito problem in Accy. The best advice I have is "Don't do anything you wouldn't eat."

Re: Little bug(ger)s
Tips about horseflies: don't bet on the big ones, the little ones are faster.

Re: Little bug(ger)s
We had loads of mosquitos up at Carnforth a couple of years ago. We were all bitten something rotten.
Have you heard they are breading an anti-malarial mosquito? |

Re: Little bug(ger)s
While turning up me garden beds and digging out stumps, I found some ultra huge white grubs. We have tons of Japanese beetle grubs. They are about an inch long and fat as ya pinky.
However, these grubs were close to 3 inches long and as think as my thumb. Can't imagine what they'd be turning into (maybe June beetles which are twice the size as the JBs). They were quite gross (though kinda cool). They even scared the chickens which relish the JB grubs. Ah, the farm life. Just yesterday rose to racket from the guineas. See a large hound dog running off with my only rooster. Shot him afew times in the butt with the BB gun but too late for the rooster (who was a mean SOB anyhow). Unfortunately had to spend the time skinning, gutting, and cleaning the ******! (I mean the rooster and not the bloody hound dog!) Boones Farm Brian |
