Foamed back left on floor

Pulled up carpet ready for a new one being put down .... but i've now been left with foam from the back of old carpet still on floor & now been painfully trying to get it off the darn floor atm with a scraper regretfully:(

Is there an easier way??????????

I had the same problem when I moved here - found that a domestic steam machine got it up much easier - melts the glue

PS there are heavy duty industrial scraping machines designed for just this purpose - but that is a lot of expense hiring one when a steam cleaner will do it

Oh dear i haven't got a domestic cleaner [what ever that is ??? oh except me lol] would wallpaper stripper be a good substitute ?? cos this is murdering my hands :D

Re: Foamed back left on floor

As long as a good underlay and carpet are going over the top it doesn't need 'scraping' up

Re: Foamed back left on floor

Chalk 2 lines down the length of the room, dividing it into 3 even sections
Give the kids a scraper each
1st to the other end of the room with all the scrapings placed into a bin liner wins £10
Easy :D

A wallpaper stripper would do much the same as a steam cleaner would - the hot steam melts the glue

Re: Foamed back left on floor

:D ooh concrete is the worst for getting sticky stuff off. The steamer should help though. Good luck!

I just hope that the concrete is covered with lino tiles or I would be tempted to hire some of the heavy industrial gear I mentioned
I watched contract carpet fitters use them when I was a building manager - same noise levels as a pneumatic drill

you can use your iron ( make sure you use it over paper brown paper if poss) then just scrape it off: it works I did mine this way:

i would do it with hot water and scraper if you dont have a steamer

easier way is to pay someone to do it for you lol

If, when you laid the carpet, you had put newspaper underneath you wouldn’t have had that problem.

Better still, if you have enough of them, use plastic carrier bags opened up under a foam backed carpet. Or bin bags.
