Re: Wedding tips.....

write a list of things you need , you will always add to it as the wedding approaches, list who you want to come to the wedding and who you want at the reception, also try not to get stressed its your day let others stress for you

Have a very quiet 'do' on the cheap -
or spend many years regretting that the money you spent could have been better used

You've definitely got your head screwed on the right way misskitty, you don't have to spend a fortune to have a good time, its all about your special day that you'll remember for the rest of your lives

My wedding cost no more than £500 (that was including my dress - which was the size of a small marquee as i was 6 months pregnant, 4 bridesmaid dresses, registry office, buffet, function room, 3 tier cake etc) so if you need any tips on anything just ask x

Little lads would look just as nice in light grey or black trousers with burgundy shirt or better still just a white shirt with plain burgundy tie to match your dress. Think they look silly in these black tails with silk burgundy waist coats anyway .. never seem to fit.

Re: Wedding tips.....

Julie and I got married 3 years after meeting after being engaged for 2 and having lived together for 2. Now been married nearly 11 years.

Tips,

Make time for each other on teh day or you end up hardly seeing each other as you try to get round everyone.

its not how much it costs its what it means to you but balance that with its (hopefully) a one off event and you can never buy memories after the event.

Wedding videos are fine but rarely get watched, they do however become a lovely reminder of people who are no longer with us.

Just cause your mate has a decent camera doesn't make him a good photographer.

for impromptu record of teh day get a load of disposable cameras and give them out to all and sundry. collect them at the end of the day and get them developed. There will be a lot of dross but some really good stuff a pro photographer would never get chance to capture.

A good buffet is a damn site cheaper than a sit down meal for 200 and can be equally memorable if you think outside the box, e.g. indian and chinese with say a proper kebab machine( not cheap donner). thats one idea, try to think of being 'different' as it will; make it memorable

Re: Wedding tips.....

You could hire a chocolate fountain ( or borrow a couple of the smaller ones from mates !). I borrowed one for Kelsey's birthday and was a roaring success ! You just need a couple of volunteers to keep an eye on it when the kiddies are using it ! Well worth the effort though.

emzy 19-02-2008 18:36

Re: Wedding tips.....

Chocolate fountains (the big ones) are very expensive to hire, my friend has one which he hires out, not sure how much but know its not that cheap

lindsay ormerod 20-02-2008 17:05

Re: Wedding tips.....

That's why I suggested seeing if she could borrow a couple of the smaller ones from friends, same results, much cheaper and keeps the kids amused for a while !
When I got married we set up a kids corner at the evening reception with crayons and games, and bowls of sweets for them.

mrskitty 21-02-2008 07:56

Re: Wedding tips.....

Been reading all your tips :)
Not keen on the chocolate fountain idea......especially with a 3 year old and a 4 year old as page boys plus lots of other young kiddies....hmm could imagine the lovely mess that would make.
Already planned to have disposable cameras instead of a photographer-checked out local wedding photographers and the lowest was £300-but you only get the proofs not the prints in that package:eek::o
So were def going with that idea.
My maid of honour and her partner are buying the buttonholes-apparently 'their contribution towards the arrangements'.......that is sooo nice of them:o
So just working on buffet ideas atm.

Re: Wedding tips.....

I have already given you most of my tips...in the blog.
When my daughter got married we bought the celebration cake from Tesco.......I bought a length of bridal net and scattered confetti in it, then pleated it and then fixed it around the cake......I bough a very small arrangement of sugar lillies.....they matched the bridal flowers...and these were placed on top of the cake. It looked lovely.....tasted great and there was absolutely no waste and no drama.

Your day doesn't have to cost the earth.......what matters is the way you feel about each other.
