wanting to go back to work
right dont laugh but....i want to go back to work
at the moment i am on £96 a week income support for me and Reece, so i need a job that is going to pay me at least £150 a week (or £96 + working tax credits) i will have to pay some rent and council tax i know, does anyone know anything about how the working family tax credits work cos i havent a clue, the rent on my house at the moment is about £68 a week, i only want to be doing about 16 hours to start with and i dont know what sort of job i want...in the past i have only ever done care work (and a bit of waitressing)which i dont want to go back to, Reece is only 11 so i'd love to do something just in the hours that he is at school anyone any suggestions? |
Re: wanting to go back to work
Can't help with the financial queries Flashy .. but how about looking for something on school dinners .. sorta' waitress .. not quite though, and you could tell the punters off for being cheeky .. :D

Re: wanting to go back to work
The best way to work it out is pretend is go to Start Calculation and input the details as though you are getting at job at minimum wage ( which a lot of part time jobs are anyway ) 16 hours at £5.52 per hour. Bear in mind you have to work a minimum 16 hours to claim working tax credits.
My guess is you won't be any better off and would probably be better spending time at college and trying to gain some skills in different things. |

thanx for that Dave :) i have an NVQ level 2 in care, was one of the first in Lancashire to get it at 17, but i dont want to go back to care work |
Re: wanting to go back to work
Flashy, welfare assistants dont make enough money for it to be worth doing if you want to come off benefits. you would need another job at the same time.

Re: wanting to go back to work
Why not go down to the jobcentre and they should be able to help you sort stuff out and give you advice. Also tell you what kind of benefits you would be able to claim after you had got a job and also tell you what kind of college courses you could do etc. Might be able to help with retraining etc.

Re: wanting to go back to work
If you enter the wage you think you might get at this site, it will tell you what tax credits and housing benefit you would get as extras

i love children, you know what i'm like Mel, i'll look after any child of any age, hopefully my NVQ will help, yeah i know it was a long time ago that i did it and i may have to do some other courses, but hey this is the start of the rest of my life :D |
Re: wanting to go back to work
As a nursing auxilairy in any of the services you would almost certainly be expected to do unsocial hours...this is evenings, weekends, bank holidays, days, nights or any combination of.
You would have to have some pretty rock solid care arrangements in place for your son to enable you to do this. I don't want to burst your bubble, but the reality is, that such care is a round the clock thing. |
Re: wanting to go back to work
You not fancy going to college to be a plumber, you can fit that tap then  :D

Re: wanting to go back to work
This has to be one of ther most absolutly pathetic threads ever posted, your probably sat on your arse all day (and have been for years) eating chocolate bon-bons and playing on your PC , you get money to live on , your rent and council tax is paid or subsidised, (all from deductions paid by working taxpayers) and you ask for advice about your career prospects ! , and also have the nerve to put limitations on what hours you feel comfortable working . God forbid that you would have to buy and use an alarm clock like millions of others.
In my opinion the Benefits office should be handing out brooms along with your monies so you can be out sweeping the streets during school hours so you can earn some of your keep . |

YOU EVER TRIED BEING A SINGLE PARENT? yes i am asking for advice on a job, would you rather me 'sit on my arse' for the rest of my life or have some initiative and get a job? i have ONE child i dont spit out kids just to stay on benefits, i dont have 7 kids with 7 different men, Reece is now 11 and i think he is old enough now to sort himself out, i worked up till i was 5 months pregnant with him, its not as if i have never contributed to the state....STEELJACK get your facts right first before you go spouting that old gob off OK !!!!!!!!!! |

You need to listen to more Chubby Brown. Man goes to the doctor telling him he cant satisfy his wife anymore. He says he just cant touch the sides. The dr asks him if he drinks lager. The man replies yes. Dr explains that is the reason, lager shrivels things up and makes them smaller. He tells the man to drink Guiness as it builds you and makes things bigger. Two weeks later the man sees his dr again. He tells him his sex life is great. The Dr asks if he is drinking Guiness. No says the man, I have the wife on lager :D |

I am not even going into the possibilities of what it COULD be. There are so many things that the symptoms COULD be, that its hard to pin point. Even the Neurologist is baffled now. Been going on for years, but trying to get the NHS to move is like trying to get a Tortoise to run the London marathon  |
