period pains

as most of you know, i have PCOS and up until January this year i hadnt had a period in nearly 3 years....hence the 2 1/2 stone i have put on over this time, i had one in January and hadnt had one since, until today, for the last week i have had awful pains in my ovaries which have been cripling, so bad that even in the car i've had to ask Richard to stop so i can take my seatbelt off and draw my knees up to my chest, the pains have even made me sick...now i've done the whole feminax and hot water bottle thing and its not helped one bit, maybe because its not my tummy but my ovaries where the pain is, i've had paracetamol, ibuprofen and anadin, can anyone suggest anything else i could try cos its killing me, hence me not being on here for a couple of days

Unfortunately I cannot suggest anything other than what you have already tried but if you give NHS direct a call they may be able to advise something that will help. The number is 0845 46 47

thanx for that Em, its probably just the PCOS, i think i need to make an appointment for another scan actually, up until yesterday i thought i may be pregnant, did a test which was of course negative (i have a 1% chance of ever having anymore)
you should have seen Richards face when i told him i'd done a test, it was hilarious ;)

Shaz, get yourself to the chemist and get some Syndol ..... they are very very affective pain killers, be careful though, they can cause drowsiness, which after a lot of pain can be quite relieving to be able to sleep. But they are very good. They should shift a lot of the pain.

Seen as I don't really give a damn, sex is meant to be a great 'cure' for these types of pains.

Have you tried substituting dairy for soya ?
it can help towards normalising oestrogens and hormone levels which may in turn help with your pcos
i tried soya for a couple of months because eventhough i am not menopausal my hormones are all over the place and i found after a couple of weeks it helped - no more hot flushes
i was so bad i could walk to work in winter in just a t-shirt and not be cold
might be worth a go -have a look on net plenty of info - although there is some new stuff about soya adversly affecting fertility - but i suppose it is individual and would depend which end of the hormone scale you lie at so to speak :D

the above is a pdf article that states how soya diet can affect your hormones -
it suggests that it may reduce follicle stimulating hormones and leutenising hormone both of which obviously go some way to reducing ovulation and develpoment of follicles
i cant give you advice but if i had pcos then i think i would give it a go.
