hairspray on heels?

I have been looking up ways to make slippery shoes into non-slippery shoes, and one tip that keeps coming up is to spray them with hair spray.
Has anyone on here tried it?does it work?and if so, for how long?
I have got my wedding shoes (and had them dyed, so cant take them back) but they have a completely smooth sole.I'm frightened enough of tripping down the aisle and now i have a new worry of slipping down the aisle :(

Re: hairspray on heels?

rub them with coarse sandpaper

mrskitty 06-09-2008 08:54

Re: hairspray on heels?

I also found that tip, but i'd rather not as hopefully im selling them after the wedding to get a bit of my £60 i had to pay for them back(!) If the hairspray works i would much rather do that so i dont damage the sole anymore than i have to...maybe i will spray them today and parade around a bit to see if i do/don't end up on my behind.

Re: hairspray on heels?

Sell them as having roughed up sole's so you don't slip. They might be worth more :D

mrskitty 06-09-2008 11:27

Re: hairspray on heels?

I'm certainly not selling anything as a "roughed up 'sole" thankyou v much Neil ;)

Re: hairspray on heels?

If you wanna test them for slipping try them on my laminate :D Im forever slipping on it in heels

Re: hairspray on heels?

I think that you are being very optimistic about being able to sell them on after the wedding.
I have sold footwear on ebay - only leather footwear sells - then at only a small fraction of original cost, even when in unworn or worn once condition.

I shall be putting them on ebay as i know there are a large amount of women with big feet and only a few places to buy big shoes........if they were an average size i might think twice but they are not. *yes i have big feet*
Plus i know i will never wear them again so i would rather have £5 in my pocket rather than a pair of shoes in my wardrobe, taking up space and collecting dust.

Please reconsider - Is the risk of a slip down the aisle worth the fiver you might get if you sell them?

Re: hairspray on heels?

either score them with a knife or use a match box on them

emzy 06-09-2008 13:13

Re: hairspray on heels?

I used a bastard file, like the one below, on a pair of Rhonda's shoes the other week when she went out.

Re: hairspray on heels?

On the subject of the shoes, rubbing the soles with sandpaper to stop them being slippery is not considered as damaging them.

Caz 06-09-2008 19:35

Re: hairspray on heels?

Have you got any of those circular sandpaper things you put on a drill attachment? You could cut some pieces off those and stick them on your soles.

Caz 06-09-2008 19:37

Re: hairspray on heels?

Just thought...Might not look so clever whilst you are knelt at the altar though...unless you use emery ones!

This is true!
But as it is only for the day...Aren't the church aisles usually carpeted? Must profess I don't know. And she won't be wearing them again...

As Neil says...not a good idea. I don't think Misskitty's getting married in a church and even if she was it's not just the church floor she'd have to worry about marking. :(

Misskitty....I agree with those who have said that roughing up the soles with a file is your best bet. :)

i think they are getting 'done' at the regisrty office....

Caz 06-09-2008 22:04

Re: hairspray on heels?

Sorry for not knowing where she was getting married, lol! wasn't privy to that.

Any ways up, KSH's suggestion seems the most logical...cobblers, a couple of quid, and non slip rubber soles. that's what I do when i have slippy shoes.
