Where do odd socks go???
 

This question has puzzled me since childhood

Where do all the "odd socks" go???

I just don't understand it..............

2 go into the washer, and only 1 comes out....

I always make sure that the socks go into the washer in pairs but on occasions only 1 comes out, does my washer eat them??? is there some magic portal in my washing machine for socks to move on to another world???

Does anyone have an answer to this?? would be great to know

Dont wanna ask god, was asking any accywebbers if they had the answer

Have asked god on numerous occasions and he's never answered so kinda gave up on that one

I always use a washing bag for stuff like undies and socks........they never manage to get out of a zipped bag:)

Nope.......well, they haven't managed it at my house yet.

I began using washing bags some 10 years ago when I brought a couple back with me from Oz.....the bags were on offer in an underwear shop.......fifty cents if you bought a bra or knicks.......I bought both and got two bags for a dollar.......which way back then was something like 40 pence..........I have used them regularly in that time and never has a sock wandered off on its own.
The other thing is........tights....you know how when you put them in the wash they tangle into everything else.....and the air is blue by the time you have untangled all the washing?????....well, with washbags that doesn't happen either....time and temper saved.:)

Same as wires in my opinion. Turn you're back and it's and orgy. No matter how neat you leave them, get up in the morning and 'bam', they are all wrapped round each other, caught in the act!!

It's my opinion, socks slip off into 'who knows where', to do the same.

There is a series of books called Oddies - and it explains where all the odd socks go. There is a portal in the washing machine where socks go 'whooooosh' and get sent to Oddie world.

We've got Policeman Oddie and Cowboy Oddie, the socks taking on the persona of their owners, of course.

In Oddie world there are good Oddies and bad Oddies and of course a Sock Fairy. A story happens and then the odd sock has to decide whether or not to go back through the portal or stay in Oddie world.

Ok, in Policeman Oddie story the sock went to Oddie world and the Sock Fairy asked for help to catch burglar Oddie. I think Policeman Oddie decided to stay in Oddie world.

Horseriding Oddie, one of the stories, had to help a horse find its horse shoe and then got to ride it. I think this Oddie decided to go back through the portal.

They weren't particularly complicated stories - only targeted at very young children.

Sorry, maybe it's just a Padiham phenomenon, I obviously need to explain.

The Sock Fairy is the mysterious person who transforms dirty socks (usually mens) from the washing basket (if that's where they were abandoned) via the washing machine, to the sock drawer.

Have you never wondered how they keep making their own way back to the sock drawer, it must be the sock fairy.:D

To answer the qyestion emzy, the washer drum is within another drum, the socks etc slip through the rubber seal into the outer drum, sometimes they will reappear in the filter or the pump, most just rot down and are taken away in the rinse cycles.

Incidentally - I occasionally wear odd socks if my wife is still sleeping when I'm getting ready. After all, I work alone, so who's to know? Anyway, this morning I wore her crocs on the school run and looked a bigger t*t than usual with one black sock and one black with orange toes & heel...

I don't worry about odd socks, I sneak out at night with it and put it on my neighbours washing line, let them worry about where the extra sock came from, it's much more fun.

I loose socks to the washer all the time,i also get my kids coming home and only 1 sock has a hole in, i now buy the same colour/type of socks each kid has diff colour and when 1 goes missing i know i wont have to wait long till another one goes missing or gets a hole in it then i can make another pair out of them if you know what i mean

Has someone removed the filter from your washer? You would not get a sock through the filter on ours
