Condensation??
Anyone got any tips on how to prevent the windows from getting condensation?
im fed up of getting up in the morning and finding bloody puddles on the bottom of my window sill due to it:( GRRRRRRRR:mad: |
Re: Condensation??
Leave all windows and doors open when you go to bed.
In the morning you might not have any furniture, or a television, but your windowsills will be condensation free.:D |

Re: Condensation??
I get condensation in the bedroom (I sleep alone)
I open the window wide after drawing back the curtains. It clears within an hour, and if you shut the door whilst the window is open you dont lose much heat from the rest of the house. I open other windows for a short time in the middle of the day. Fresh air is as important as warmth |
Re: Condensation??
I read if you rub washing up liquid onto the glass, it can help.... I tried it on my bathroom mirror and it worked there...

Re: Condensation??
Forty years ago we lived in an Air Ministry house in Whitby. The only forms of heating were a coal fire in the lounge, a heated towel rail in the bathroom and very small wall-mounted electric fires in the kitchen and bedrooms. The windows had metal frames and were single glazed and we lived about 200 yards from the sea.
It was absolutely bloody freezing in Winter (though we were hardy, then, and barely noticed it) and all our windows used to be covered in condensation which often froze - on the inside. We found a product that was supposed to be like double-glazing. It was plastic sheeting, like a thick cling-film, that you taped over your windows then heated with a hair dryer until it went taut. It really did reduce the draughts and cold air and it stopped the condensation. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called and I don't know if you can still get it. |
Re: Condensation??
I had no heating in my house this weekend... ahhhhhhhhh it was just like the good old days.... turning on the oven to get warm... and freezing in the bathroom.... glad its back on now :-)

Re: Condensation??
well you only use a bit... and use newspaper so it kind blends in..... hardwork but it does work:
and I am not taking the mick so you get nice clean windows when it suds up... it really works: or a light bulb in a biscuit time will do the job: say a 20 watt one... with holes in the tin lid so it wont get too hot and cheap to run... :-) |

I am the same to a much lesser extent. When you get old the risk of heart attack and strokes increases when the temperature drops. It is something to do with blood thickening. I am not instructed to stay in but only go out in winter for unavoidable reasons (doc, chiropody etc), and when being within 4 walls ' gets to me' I am fortunate to have lovely views from my windows and a pc to chat on. PS read this week that persons with COPD are to be given email warnings to stay in when low temperatures are forecast |
Re: Condensation??
OO that has just made me think of the thread a while back - about what you imagine people to look like. I honestly thought that Jaysay was a young man in his 30's.

Re: Condensation??
The washing up liquid/shampoo works, and the polythene stuff that you tape on and heat to stretch used to be available in b and q.

Re: Condensation??
might give the washing up stuff a go someday, will try it on the smallest window:D
Ill tell ya then if it works;) |
Re: Condensation??
The fact that you have condensation on your widows is due to the moisture content in the air. None of the anti mist products work successfully, the cling film type double glazing isnt fool proof, moisture does get behind, then you have to take it down to clean it up.
The only real answer is a dehumidifier, I have two one in the kitchen and one leading to the bathroom, the big one in the kitchen is over 20 years old, holds 12 pints, and gets emptied every 10 days, without it the walls would be wet thro, you'd be surprised how much moisture come from cooking and washing, even burning gas, produces moisture. Also when the central heating is off, condensation starts as the rooms cool down. You will also notice that the rooms feel warmer, when a dehumidifier removes the moist air. Retlaw. |
