Supraspinatus Tendinitis

i've just been diagnosed with Supraspinatus Tendinitis (Calcification of the tendon) in my shoulder and arm joint, i went for an x-ray at the hospital a couple of weeks back to see if it was arthritis, thankfully it isnt, the doctor said its like scar tissue that will never heal

i need hospital treatment on it though and i was wondering if anyone has ever had joint injections through ultrasound...someone told me its painful, i dont mind the pain but how long do the injections last for?

I was on the Gynaecology Ward........women's reproductive bits......similar to Lettie really. Have now been retired for almost 7 years......and i have forgotten lots, basically because I don't need to remember it anymore........I would google for the answer......and also ask at your GP's practice......the nurses there may be able to help you.

Supraspinatus tendinitis (painful arc syndrome)

Maybe this link will help answer some of your queries.

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

One of my colleagues had this painful condition and had it operated on......and has been fine ever since.

flashy 04-06-2009 18:43

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

i googled it when the doc told me Marg, i just wanted to know if the injections where painful lol

Margaret Pilkington 04-06-2009 20:05

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

I think the answer to that one is yes, but then the condition is painful too.....the injections do relieve the pain for a time so I guess it is worth it to be painfree for a while.

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

Shaz, ask if you should stay still for a while after having the injection.

Rhonda had a similar injection in her sacroiliac joint a few years ago. She was not told to not move about much afterwards and had a bad reaction to it. I think the stuff they put in spread about because so did not rest afterwards. I am sure it will hurt like hell as they will use a long needle to get to the right place.

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

cheers for that Neil, i'll mention it when they ring to arrange a 'consultation' on the phone, why they can't just book me an appointment i'll never know, just makes it harder work for themselves

Dr Marshal told me yesterday that someone from the hospital will ring to make an appointment with me so they can arrange a time with me to ring me for a phone consultation....now to me ringing to ask when they can speak to me on the phone is a bit backwards...why not just send for me?

what is the world coming to?

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

went to see the consultant today and i now have it in both arms, WONDERFUL....gotta go to Beardwood Hospital in a couple of weeks so they can have a poke about with a big needle to see if they can get rid of it, if they can't i have to have them both operated on, i also have lots of fluid in both arm joints

I used to hate them too flashy, but over the years I've had no choice but to get used to them, even so I don't watch, that might be an idea for you to

No it is for any age, I would just inquire it is not the easiest place to get to without your own transport.

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

think its a bit late to ask about it, don't you have to book in advance? if they hadn't brought my appointment forward then i'd probably have called them to ask about it, i'll get the bus to town then the bus up, if i'm bad when i come out then i'll get a taxi home, thanx for the help Bernie

good luck for tomorrow Shaz... I also hate needles in fact I would say that if ever I had a phobia that would be it... but giving blood has def helped me get over it to a certain extent... but then I don't think we're talking about the same needles here!!!

Good luck xxx

How are you Flashy ? Ok .. we hope .. x

flashy 27-08-2009 17:32

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

ah thanx for asking Kate, 2 bloody needles they said...try SIX, and it hurt like hell, i had 2 lumps of calcification in my left arm (the one i was having done) so it took almost two hours of probing my arm with all those naffing needles to try and break them up....one of the lumps was hard so was really hard to try and break so i have to go back AGAIN for the same arm but be put under general anesthetic this time and have it cut open, then after that i have to have physio on this arm (left) and as i also have it in my right arm now i have to go through it all again with that arm...and to top it all the bloke that did it put the needle through an artery by accident so i ended up covered in blood....i can move my arm but it just feels like it did before i went in, still clicking and grinding and burning, dont know why i bothered

BERNADETTE 27-08-2009 17:44

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

The op should put it right for you, sounds bloody nasty does that needle job.

flashy 27-08-2009 17:54

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

lol it was and it hurt, couldnt move my arm at all Tuesday and Wednesday, been high as a kite on painkillers for the last 2 days, havent had any today though, havent needed any yet, its a bit of an arse at night though, with only being able to sleep on one side its a bit awkward

flashy 27-08-2009 17:57

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

and its killing me not being able to go on my bike, for a week :(

flashy 16-11-2009 11:29

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinitis

well i'm off for another 'procedure' again at Beardwood on Friday, had another ultrasound on it last week and the calcification that didn't break up last time seems to have grown, having the same done as before....they said i'd be put under this time but that's not the case, i'll be awake yet again, not looking forward to it this time because i know exactly whats coming, needles needles and more needles, and 3 days of pain and stiffness afterwards....i do wish they'd get it right first time

BERNADETTE 16-11-2009 11:33
