Try this if your keys are locked in your car...

Have you ever locked your keys in the car? :o
Does your car have remote keyless entry?
This may come in handy someday.
Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your
keys in the car and the spare keys are at home,
call someone at home on their mobile phone
from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from
your car door and have the person
at your home press the unlock button,
holding it near the mobile phone on their end.

Your car will unlock.

Saves someone from having to
drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object.
You could be hundreds of miles away,
and if you can reach someone who has
the other 'remote' for your car, you can
unlock the doors (or the boot).

I am assured this works. I can't find my spare key so I can't try it. If anyone tries it out, let us all know how it goes....If it works it's gonna save someone a HUGE amount of time and hassle! :)

This does not work. Next you will be telling us that putting your remote next to your head lets you unlock the car from a greater distance :)

Someone told me about this ages ago and I'm sure I posted on here about it, I didn't believe it and was proved wrong, I've proved a few people wrong too, for some unknown reason it does work.
Edit - Any yeah the bit about unlocking over the phone does not work

Didn't Richard Hammond "prove" this on Top Gear or Brainiac?

er... could that be something to do with it being held higher up, and the sensor being high up in the car?

If your car is a remote keyless entry, and the keys are still in the car, how do you lock yourself out, surely you need to have the keys in your hand to lock the thing.

It's all getting to "high tech" for me.. when I was a kid it was the old bendy hacksaw blade and a wire coat hanger!

With my car as long as my drivers door is shut I can lock the doors. When the last door shuts it dead locks and sets the alarm.

But what do you lock the doors with, where are the keys.

If I was being a bit blonde and got out the car, opened the boot to take something out, then locked the doors with the remote and put the key in the boot while lifting what ever out, then forgot to pick up the key and shut the boot I would lock the keys in.

You would really have to be blond to do all that.
They must have had blonds on the design team as well.
In that case Im glad I can't lock myself out of my car.
