Turkey Breast Crown
Have gone for this, this year .. wondered if it would be as succulent as a full turkey .. but a full one is so blooming messy .. ripping off the wings and the legs. Have googled and found lots of ways to cook. Without the arms and legs will it be just as good I wonder? Says on the label 'bone in with prime wing' :confused:
Does it have a backside to put the stuffing in ? As I am not the best of cooks any advice gratefully received ... :D Also, has what looks like a drawing pin stuck in it which, seemingly, pops up when it is thoroughly cooked. Love to know the way this works. |

i got a crown from aldi last year and it was great but i cook stuffing seperatly, i didnt see any this year in aldi and asdas were pittyfull with hardly any meat on them infact i got a full non frozen turkey for teh same price at tesco

No Katex, a Turkey crown is just the double breast, all white meat....and no fighting over the legs or arguments about who gets the brown meat.
I think it is always safer to cook stuffing seprately.....you can use the juices from the turkey crown to make the stuffing. When we have had turkey crown in the past, I have covered the breast with laced streaky bacon......it keeps the breast moist and adds flavour.......you can crumble this cooked bacon over your sprouts just before serving too. We are giving turkey the flick this year.......have gone off it. Will probably have roast Pork or beef. |

I've been getting a crown for a few years. Much easier and less waste as it's all meat, no fighting over who gets the legs either.
I turn it over for the last half hour so it's sort of upside down. Makes it nice and moist. |

i wouldnt know ... never cooked a turkey in my life ....mum, then my sister has always done it .... cooked a chicken .. always cook it upside down and then about half an hour before it cooked turn it the right way up ... that way get a crispy skin ...:D

Having only me and Reece here i always buy a ready to roast Turkey breast joint that already has stuffing with it. cook from frozen for 2 1/2 hours and thats that, no messing :D
was buying my veggies down at Tesco the other day and Reece can't stand Brussell sprouts, but i always buy them for me at Christmas....i bought 4 single Brussells and they cost me a grand total of............. 8p :D:D:D i don't see the point in buying a pack of them, they'd only get wasted |

no-ones answered kates question, cooking time per pound n what temp etc is what someone who says aint best cook in world needs to know, which leads me to conclusion yer all numpties.:D;)

Cashy it usually gives timings per pound and oven temperatures on the wrapping...or somewhere on the packaging.
I have a gas cooker so can only give gas temperatures.......I would say 25mins per pound at gas mark 5.......and an extra 25 mins on top.......check the turkey crown regularly......it can be considered cooked when the juices run clear. Allow the cooked crown to 'rest' for 30 mins before carving(I would cover the cooked crown with tinfoil to keep the heat in...and in my house to deter the cats from stealing it:D)....while the crown is 'resting' make your gravy from the juices. There Cashy! is that better? |

well scranned mine "Crown" n never had a bad christmas dinner, but todays was the best ever IMHO am well stuffed but will reward Paris in the time honoured way.:D

Well, am nearly ready to go ... the turkey smells great, and that little gadget has pushed itself out (still love to know how it works though). Just waiting for the potatoes to crisp and brown.
Thanks Cashy for asking re. the cooking time, but they had worked it out for me on the packaging .. 2hr. 55mins .... :D:D Got glass of champagne in me hand ... so cheers everyone !! xx |

A perfectly cooked chicken with all the trimmings.........now is there any more pots and pans i have not used up yet :D |
