Really?! Partner has ended up with it and wont go to the bloody doc's, told him he were stupid but there you go. It went away for a couple of days but now returned, had it for bout a month now and getting frustrated with his whinging!!! :eek:;)

stop eating Cheese and drink only drinks you can "see" through .... White wine instead of Red wine , clear beer (Bitter) instead of Mild/Stout . ;)

Someone suggested massaging the affected joint with comfrey oil. Personally I would go to the doctor as there are some very effective and quick acting drugs to use.

Heth, just a query......how do you know it is gout if he hasn't been to the Docs?

He needs to see a doc for a positive diagnosis.

totally agree with you Margaret but trying to get him to the doc's is very hard work :rolleyes: think i might just chop his foot off next time it flares up!!! :D

Gout is very very painful..The best drug by far to get immediate results ( can't spell relief ) is diclofenic sodium tablets. The marketing name for these is ::volterol..Only just recently made so you can buy them from the chemists...You will need a big dose to start with and the tabs are 12mg each..you will need to take 4x of these first off.Your doctor will give you alapurinol tabs to take every day, this is to stop the gout coming back.....How do I know ? had it for years, and it is hereditory in my case !! Diclofenac is a good pain relieving medication. it is one of the Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, often noted NSAID's. These do not suit everyone, and are known to cause gastric irritation for some people.
If these are required it is best to get them from the GP......as the normal dose for this medication is 50 mg Three times daily.

Gout is caused by a build up of Uric acid....Allopurinol stops the production of uric acid,then it cannot be deposited in the joints in crystalline form...which is what causes the pain and swelling.

These treatments are best monitored by a GP, and I think the pharmacist would recommend a GP consultation before giving any medications.
Pharmacists are required by law to enquire into why the medication is being bought over the counter.

I agree Margaret, I took Diclofenac sporadically for years, they gave me gastric irritation and bleeding which was painful to say the least. I only took one a day when needed, I only found our that I should have been prescribed a tablet along side to protect my stomach after the event. I don't take them anymore and prefer alternative methods which do work.
