Homemade beauty tips
My friend was telling me the other day that she'd been told to use honey and salt mixed together to make a facial/body scrub, I've just tried it and my face feels so soft
Currently sat here with half a jar of mayonaise on my hair because I have run out of conditioner, it aparently helps with hair growth and makes your hair silky Anyone got any other homemade beauty tips? |

Mainly because of a rule change though, it is more difficult to get it inside. Women went straight from, 'when a girl says no she means yes', to, 'when a girl says no she means no'. Couldn't we have had a period of time to work towards this? Something along the lines of, 'when a girl says no she means maybe'. :p |

Re: Homemade beauty tips
I'm a mega fan of more natural products..
For skin-Castor oil, try to remember to moisturise with it every night. A blessing for fine lines and my skin looks far better since using that. For hair, blemishes, skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis, spots etc I am a massive fan of coconut oil-amazing stuff is that. In fact, I've currently got a load of it on my hair, now. It repaired my hair after years of abuse (I've had micro-ring extensions and weaves for about seven years), it was all patchy, short and almost falling out. Now It's grown loads and is soft and healthy. I will reply again if I think of any more! |

Re: Homemade beauty tips
Sugarmouse, olive oil is good for your hair too, wrapped in clingfilm and left over night
|
Re: Homemade beauty tips
I use bicarb of soda on my face as an exfoliant as well, mixed into a paste with water-I find salt grains a bit too harsh..
Avocado is great mashed up as a face mask , especially if you have dry skin. If your skin isn't so dry, oatmeal mixed with agave nectar and blended works good as well. Honey is more commonly recommended but I don't buy honey so I use agave nectar, similar properties for skin. Tea tree oil cures almost anything I find. My partner had verrucas on his feet from the gym and it got rid of those, they've never recurred..I've used it on ingrowing hairs and bumps caused by shaving as well. (Come to think of it though, I'd rather he went back to the gym and had verrucas, than gave it up altogether like he appears to have done... ) :D |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
Mashed banana and honey for your hair too
|
Re: Homemade beauty tips
I tried the banana thing once and ended up with loads of bits of banana stuck in my hair for days even after using shampoo! That was fun :D

Seriously, it was like bits of dry snot, glued into my hair. Think it was the parts of the banana like the 'stringy' bits, that had stuck to my hair and wouldn't come out. Brushing it out just hurt and made my hair knot up! I also use vegetable oil to remove make up, anything else makes my eyes sting. |

Great to see young ladies using natural beauty remedies.
A wise rule - if you can't eat it don't slap it on your skin, because skin is not a barrier, it absorbs. |

I use coconut oil all over myself and I also put it in the bath when I bathe! Quote:
I feel embarrassed to admit I've not used an oven for 6 weeks-there's something wrong with my partner's (it's recently began tripping the electricity every time it's turned on!) and the temporary accommodation I'm living in I've not done much cooking! Maybe I should add something fruitful to this thread; Tea bags applied to a cold sore can make the symptoms pass faster. Tea tree oil after shaving to help prevent ingrowing hairs and bumps Chamomile tea with lemon juice can brighten up blonde hair and even slightly lighten it. It's best if you apply the solution as a rinse then sit in the sun-but because we're in Britain, using a hairdryer is a second-best option. Potato slices are good for puffy eyes and dark circles, cut some to size and place over your (closed!) eyes and lie down for 15-20 minutes (The last part's probably the hardest bit!)The starch in them contains the same enzyme that's used as the 'magic ingredient' in many creams that claim to lighten dark circles.. |

Re: Homemade beauty tips
I don't eat soya beans in any form.
I doubt you will find any that haven't been genetically modified. The japanese only consume soy after fermentation (soy sauce) Soybean Oil: Another Harmful Ingredient in Processed Foods |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
I know this. You do seem to assume that other people are very much below your level of knowledge. Many are, but not as many as you think.
I wouldn't eat any refined soya products, as you say, the way we prepare soya food products is what makes them harmful. The Japanese don't consume a lot of it despite popular belief, they consume it often but not in large amounts. My enquiry was regards soybean oil, not for consumption though. I favour soybean oil for skin disorders, which is why I was wondering where I could get it from. It's actually the main ingredient in a potential cure for coldsores and other viruses which is in its final stages at the moment, and the reason I am eager to get some. My partner suffers a few skin disorders and I've just got the first coldsore I've ever had which has really annoyed me! I have sent himself to a health food shop in town to look for some anyway, and have been informed that it's available at Tesco. Thank you for your response though ! :) |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
If you wouldn't eat it, don't slap it on skin.
There are plenty of natural herbal oils for skin problems (which you already know about don't you:rolleyes:) |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
I use mostly castor and coconut oils as I've detailed above.
Refined products are the worst. I'd be more inclined to use soya oil than to eat any products made from the soya bean. I wouldn't eat castor oil either because it's so thick and 'gloopy'-but I doubt it would do me much harm if I did. But anyway. It's this that made me particularly want soybean oil. Where are the Cures? - Medicine at Michigan Summer 2011 (detailed about halfway down the page). NB-001 Treatment of Recurrent Herpes Labialis - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov Potential cure for viruses-makes me wonder if it would help with follicle infections too as some of those are caused by viruses. |

Castor oil is a stimulant and lubricating laxative. It is not a preferred treatment, because it can produce painful cramps, fecal incontinence and explosive diarrhea. Its action can go on for hours, sometimes unpredictably and powerfully causing an involuntary bowel movement at inconvenient locations and during sleep. Initially, castor oil is digested in the small intestine. When the digestion is complete, it enters the large intestine and produces a feeling of hot diarrhea pressing on the anal sphincter. The slightest relaxation of the anal sphincter causes fecal incontinence. After a certain point in time, it is impossible to retain, especially in the larger doses. |

I had made a valid query and was given a load of links to things that I know about, that weren't related to my query at all. Same as this member has done in the past to me several times, when I think back. The links and response weren't related to the question I asked, in this post or in past posts, and assumptions are being made about my level of knowledge and perception. It would be reasonable to expect me to know about soya and human health, and I'm careful to not sound rude in my responses. If I wanted to inform someone, I may ask first if they knew about the consequences of certain things or offer to help, not assume that they do not know. |

Why assume people are below your level of intelligence or even ignorance? Most are surprisingly aware, and often react negatively towards displays of conceit. whether it's hers, you'rs or mine. |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
Curse of the human condition I suppose. I like to help if someone asks a question and I know the answer, and I share knowledge but I am more cautious about it-and if it was me responding to my post, I would have probably added something like 'Are you aware of the dangers of soya foods?' Not readily assumed I didn't know. I was asking about the oil, and given this is a home-made beauty tips thread, It's quite clear that I wasn't interested in eating it.I want some for skin conditions, and I asked if she knew where to get some from.
Then again the reasons for the controversy of processed soya foods are not apparent with the oil, anyway. |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
Sugarmouse, I know you are not rude in your replies.
We obviously have different ways of responding with information. I spent many years as an internet researcher and it's automatic to me to look for information if someone mentions a topic. I would then post the answer whether the person asked for info or not. And it wouldn't be because I was making assumptions about a person's level of knowledge. It might be of interest to others as well. I believe Margaret works along the same lines. |
Re: Homemade beauty tips
I agree about it being of relevance to others-I did consider that at the time, and yes we are different, I do hold it important to not sound abrupt when I post on forums, and it isn't so important to others. I wouldn't have said anything had it been the first/only time.
I've never found anything you've posted to be anything but informative and polite, though. :) As regards my initial query I went to all sorts of different places recently trying to buy soya oil and came back empty handed!Strange that nowhere sells it yet we use soya for all sorts of different things. I've ordered some online anyway :) |

Re: Homemade beauty tips
One thing I do 'suffer' from a lot is cracked dry skin on feet, I've not found a 'cure' for this as I get it from running and being on my feet at work.
One thing that helps is soaking my feet in lemon juice and warm water then rubbing with olive oil-it really helps but I have to do it often. I would love to find something that works better, or a more more lasting solution. |
