shredders

Anyone use a shredder or something else to destroy your personal info?

Re: VISA card scam

Had all my bank statements etc for the last 12yrs, got sick of seeing em about so finally coughed up £9.99, took me a while but I feels a lot happier than just chuckin em in the bin - doing it now with all other things like bills reciepts etc

I bought a cheap one too, but as I work from home now the poor thing couldn't keep up, so we coughed up £25 for an electric one.

My wife loves it!!!

Our one gave up the ghost when we bombarded it daily with around 50 sheets of paper for 2 weeks solid...

Re: VISA card scam

My kid sister used to work for a national stationery company, and I got a weapons grade shredder for an unbeatable deal. It shreds bedsheets, skins cats and would be great at making confetti and ticker-tape to throw from the terraces at footy matches. :D

To be serious, if I get any document through the post with my name and address on it, offers for credit cards or bank loans etc, they all go through the shredder.
The worst postal problem is credit card bills. I once received a monthly statement where the document had slipped within the envelope. Not only was my name and address visible through the window on the envelope, but also the sixteen digit credit card number. Surely in the right, or in this case the wrong hands, this information could have been used for some nefarious activities. :(

:nono8: Very naughty credit card company. They should not be sending out statements with your full number on like that.

When Busman moved up here he paid a final council tax bill to South Beds council by credit card. They sent him a receipt by post, quoting the full credit card number - and it went to the wrong address.

Re: shredders

A lot of times now when you pay for goods by credit card and they post you a receipt they blank out all but the last 4 digits

I have them where they blank out all but the last four.

I don’t think I’m going to bother with a shredder. I think the chances of some one stealing my identity are very remote. Having said that, if I had a lot of money and a lot to loose then I may consider one.

In my industry everything has to be kept secure, as I am dealing with not just my own finances, but those of other peoples
