Disabled couple Snowed in

My wife and I are disabled and live in an apartment block in Huncoat. Access to the block is by steps which are difficult at the best of times. Now with the snow and ice the path and steps are very treacherous. Does anyone know of anybody or bodies I can contact to get the steps cleared and safe? Perhaps there might even be a public spirited individual with a shovel and an hour to spare who could do the job!!
Please contact through this site or directly to [email protected] :D

Have you contacted your Councillor or the Council?

I thought councils only did roads and such.

Your Councillor may want brownie points for the upcoming elections in May.

I have emailed the Council - Fingers Crossed. Thanks

If the flats are council owned they should not need asking to do such jobs in this sort of weather . It should be a priority to make sure the elderly and infirm are safe. I hope you get the steps made safe soon.

They are not council owned anymore, its Hyndburn Homes that should be contacted.

You know everything is the Councils fault. Always said it was wrong that Hyndburn Homes has the name Hyndburn in it. It makes it sound like the council still.

The worst thing is the council actually subcontract work out to them, they should give it to a local company

What work is that? Most of the Hyndburn Homes staff are local so they are helping employ local people even if the company itself isn't local

There is a (privately rented/owned) block of flats in Huncoat village named Honeysuckle court but that doesn't have steps to the front door.

Of the Hyndburn Homes flats only this one shows such steps
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Hon...,62.05,,1,6.47

Since other flats in the block use them too it is reasonable to expect that other users may well have already made them safer to use.

You do have to wonder which idiot designed that block with the door on the down hill side so they need outside steps at all. If you look at the other two block up the hill they have the entrance door on the other side at ground level.

With the snow forecast towards the weekend have you got Hyndburn Homes tuned up to get it cleared again?
