Springhill Community Centre

A new Springhill School is currently being built on Exchange St.

LCC has put forward the following proposals:

* Retention of th reception building at Hannah St and the Infant building at Exchange St for community use (to be run by local voluntary management committees)

*Demolition of the junior building at Exchange St and creation of a recreational area

The success of these proposals will be dependent on developing viable plans for the use of the buildings and the identification of "umbrella" groups willing to take on the management of the buildings.

Some funding will also be needed to develop the recreational area and carry out any necessary repairs to the buildings, but LCC is committed to exploring the feasibility of these plans and of involving the local community at every step.

Further Information [email protected]

Have you got any ideas as to how these facilities can be utilised?

The Out of School Club, which already uses the present Exchange St building is obviously top of the list.

What about using part of the facilities where older people of the comunity can go to learn the basics of computing?

There must be loads who would love to learn but don't know where to start..
(I'll volunteer)  :)

I think it's an excellent idea. For any age group. The way things are going now, computer knowledge is going to be a necessity.

Surprising how many people in their 30s & 40s even have no computer knowledge. I'd volunteer too.

I know several retired people who now make great use of computers and the Internet.

In Blackburn (some areas), they have a scheme where they are providing free  computers to people who would otherwise not have access. Maybe they should start one in Accy?

If anyone has any genuine ideas for the use of the centre, they could come along to the next Springhill Network Group meeting.
20th August. 7.30pm, Fairfield St Community Centre.

You could air any other views there as well.

Re: Springhill Community Centre

Hi, I have just been reading the comments about the community centre and it was interesting to read your comments about the usage.:)
There are various activities taking place such as numeracy, ESOL, IQRA, aerobics, gentle exercise just to name a few. Youth Action@ Hyndburn put on activities for young peopple aged 11 upwards. The after school club caters for ages or 5-11 yrs every school night from 3-6pm.

This is your centre (you being the community) and would like to see it being used to its full potential, there are 4 computers for community use too so if you have any ideas for any groups you wish to come and set up, come and talk to me at the centre.

Or if you prefer and you have other issues such as where young people are going to play once work begins on the land at the top of Exchange Street, come and voice yiour concerns at the Spring Hill Network Meeting on Wednesday 19th November at 6:45pm at the centre. You will be made most welcome.

If you have any further questions or would just like a visit please call me on 01254 871 658

Re: Springhill Community Centre

There are now basic computer classes running, just give me a ring to arrange a suitable time. :)

We are looking to put a much needed childrens play area on the derelict land for children up to 12 years of age, along with a car park.

However to enable us to get funding for this I need letters of support.

Do you agree or object to this, any comments will be welcome.
