The Tufty Club
Does anyone remember the Tufty Club, think it was when I was about 6 or 7 and these people (might've been the police actually) came round the schools talking about road safety and we were all made members. If I remember right we al got a badge a handbook and a hanky with the said squirrel on them - ah memories :o

Re: The Tufty Club
Yeah.. I remember when the "Tufty Club" came down to the New Era one afternoon giving it the big spuds... got a bit nasty when the "Hamster Crew" turned up!... jelly and orange squash all over the gaff!

Re: The Tufty Club
I was also in the Tufty Club.
It was run by Mrs Owen at my Primary school, Moor End, and was run one lunchtime a week. 'Look right, look left, look right again. If all is clear walk quickly, and safely across the road.' Thanks Tufty, for keeping me safe for forty two years, and I still have your lovely book and badge somewhere safe.:) http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...tuftybadge.jpg |

Re: The Tufty Club
I vaguely remember it, but one thing that just come back to me for some reason was the "Diddy jackets" anyone remember them?
All school kids walking about with Fluorescent orange jackets on, now its the adults that wear them for safety/work reasons :D |

No, you're mixed up, warty eye was Mrs Chapman. She taught third from the top year, and also sex education to the top class, which I think I must have missed. :D Mrs (Nel) Owen taught the 5/6 year olds, and she was also my Sunday school teacher. She was a wonderful woman, and the finest socialist I ever had the pleasure in knowing. She sadly died the other year aged ninety. |

Re: The Tufty Club
I left senior school in 88 - I remember The Tufty Club. I had a big white annual of it which also showed dangers around the house - loose wires and pan handles over the edge of cookers. Not sure how old I would have been...about 9 maybe??

Re: The Tufty Club
The 'Tufty Club' was the brainchild of the late PC Ken Wilkinson, a Lancashire Constabulary traffic officer who dedicated much of his career to road safety issues involving the safety of children. Ken's widow, Hazel still lives in Cranbourne Drive, Church.
