DIY Beauty Products
 

Whilst looking in a book my mum had written out for me of her recipes, came across one for hand cream that she always used:-

2 ozs Glycerin
2 ozs Rosewater ... these two in one bottle.

1 oz Spirits Camophor
1/4 oz Gum of Tragacarth (Tragacanth ?)
Juice of 1 lemon
Gill water.
Let Gum of Tragarcarth stand in Spirits of Camphor overnight, then add rest of ingredients.

Remember it well and did work . come to think of it .. probably the basis of most hand creams today, and much cheaper. Might try it, if I can still buy the ingredients.

Sounds good Kate, I prefer a dip of Nivea Cream myself, good stuff after an hard day in the fells.

My Ma has got loads of recipe books for lotions and portions. I think she may be a witch in a past life.

I remember her once boiling a big pan of lettuce and rose water, to put on my spots when I was a teenager. I think it worked though...people's attention was drawn to the strange odour wafting from me, rather than my firey pimples.:D
