Mine haven't actually been on 'away' trips mainly cos at the times they were on i couldnt afford it so couldnt tell you tho today i wish one of them would give me a a day long break nevermind a week:rolleyes: So you are fortunate Jacky - enjoy while i can only wishful think dream or wait till they leave home....ticking calender off hehehe:D

Our Zack went to Hothersall Lodge 2 years ago.

I was worried sick. Mainly because they do canoing and things like that, and as his mother, I always think no-one can look after him like I would.:o

So I said to him " look zack, you dont need to go canoing if you don't want " lol trying to talk him out of it. He said " no mum, I want to ".

Anyway off he went, and all weekend I worried sick.

Sunday I watched the clock tick by then went to pick him up from school.

He got off the coach and I was hugging and kissing him, asking how it went, what he did, did he enjoy it?? BUT he was like " yeah , yeah, hmmm, yeah " I thought ' oh god whats happened, he is really quiet '.

When we got home, he fell fast asleep on settee. But when he woke up, i couldn't shut him up about it for the next few days :D


Last year, zack and Bradley went. They went together with my mates little girl!! Zack was like the leader, cos he had been before.

Me, Ginger and our mates used the weekend without the kids to go to Blackpool by our selves. We had a great time and when the kids got back, they had had a great time too. So don't worry Jacky, he will be just fine. Kids are more resilient than we give them credit for ...... doesn't stop us mums from worrying ourselves sick though :o

thankyou all for replying, it gives me a bit more confidence to know he should be ok, i know im overeacting but its a scary thought

not allowed mobiles with them on the trip katex, just incase of theft, but if anything is wrong they will phone me hope they dont have to

My first overnighter was when i was 11 and went to london at secondary school cos primary schools didnt do overnighters when i was there. Loved it. I went to Hothersall Lodge when i was 15 for a week - oh did we have fun. We got took all over the place. Dumped us in the middle of nowhere and told us to find our way home with maps and compasses - most of us found our way to the nearest pub!!! They wouldnt do that with 10 year olds - mind you dont think theyd do that nowadays anyway. By the way when we found our way to the nearest pub - guess who we found there already? Yup the teachers!!!

My elder daughter and my son both went away with school at age 11. Lymm Grammar, as it was then, owned (and still does) a farm on Anglesey where the kids did trekking, swimming and canoeing amongst other things. My kids went about 3 times a year until they left the school.

My younger daughter went to the Isle of Man for a week, with her primary school, when she was 9. She enjoyed it up to the last 3 days when she started feeling poorly. Unfortunately she came back very ill indeed but it was nothing to do with the holiday. She had (we discovered in the course of time) an extra kidney which had become infected and was eventually removed when she was 10.

I took a bunch of 7-9 year olds away on a 3 night trip 2 yrs ago. They all loved it & couldn't wait to go again the following year
