cuff links,collar stays and stuff
 

Maybe its an age thing , but just wondering how many older male Accy web users still have these things around , (refusing to call it a jewelery box) I have a wooden box (Aleut/Alaskan eskimo, made with a scrimshaw lid ) which is in the top of my bedroom desser, it holds a few pairs of cuff links and collar studs and stays of various lengths ,(all infrequenty used these days) , my Dads old watch , a few old sets of long forgotten car keys , a gold puzzle ring (4 gold rings which once interlocked), a ring with a middle eastern gold coin the size of a soveriegn ( never worn for a least 20 years), a tarnished 'silver' cigarette case (seen use at Accy Jazz club, Peel Park late 60s), inside are phone numbers and a couple of photos of people who I have no recolection of who they are, and some casino chips from long gone casinos , a few foriegn coins with holes in the middle from the days when i used to check the the IChing before going out for the night :eek:.
Its just a miscellaneous oddball collection of stuff collected over the years , emptied from a pocket after a good night out , means nothing to anyone apart from me (gold value apart) .
So if any other "coffin dodger" has any such stuff , let us know , and why you keep the bloody stuff ;) ;)

Willow - that "Tiki Maori" thing you have -
It was probably bought from the same source as the one my mum had.
I remember her buying it at a sham mindreading show at Ossy Town Hall in the late 40s.
She used to rub the little thing on the corner of dad's football coupon - it never did any good.

used to have allsorts of junk like that steeljack, sadly was lost in transit from spain, only thing that survived was a few old Accy STanley Progs, which i donated to the club a few yrs ago. had old tickets fer concerts,memberships,a burn tin which had a lovely cross beaten on lid. photos of people many long forgotten, all bloody junk, so why i should be sad at its loss is beyond me,but i am.

Son (25 yrs) regularly wears cuff links and has a wooden box he keeps them in. He says its a fashion thing!!

Think many young uns wear cuff links these days . My lad does on occasions .

The only thing I have these days are 1 pair of cuff links and old Young Tory Party badge from the 60s and my Grandads medals from th 1914/18 and my fathers from the 1939/45

Since I used to work for a shirt maker, unsuprisingly I have most of the things mentioned.

Quite a few people, besides the legal profession, have detachable collars, so need studs.

All shirts will have collar bones, or stays as the Americans call them. Though in mass produced shirts these will probably not be detachable.

I do have quite a few pairs of cufflinks, ranging from simple silk knots to stylish Art Deco ones from the 1920's. As part of my job, as Creative Director, was buying thousands of pairs of cufflinks, I very rarely wore them myself for work, preferring a 2-button single cuff.

In my stud box are some old ivory collar studs, which happily you can no longer buy, at least not legally.

My 26 year old does too .. lots of 'designer' and actually working shirts have the facility for them now, and he has many pairs (keeps losing 'em though, don't know where :rolleyes:) Always get him some for Christmas stocking.

Not long ago was in M & S .. he was spending a Chrismas voucher from work, so decided couple of shirts/tie would do (they turn there noses up at M & S now don't they ?). Wanted a tie pin, went to the assistant and counter in the men's departments. They didn't even know what I was talking about, let alone sell them !!

Sorry, have no contribution to the original theme of the thread ... wish I had, would have been lovely to have kept some of my parent's little trinkets.

I have an old box because if I dont keep one handy - I keep losing all my dang pairs. You really need one if you're absent minded like me! lol
