Whats the best natural beer you've ever had

Well as my old mate Jimmy used to tell me there is no bad beer its just that some are better than others:D

I have always liked natural beer myself and have ad a few in my time, having traveled the length and breadth of the country, but one of the best I've ever tasted was one brewed by Burtonwood at Warrington, Top Hat, it was about 5.4% very dark beer with a lovely smooth taste, it was mainly sold in bottles but with Joan working at the brewery I went on works outings with her and at most of the venues they had it on draught, the nearest place I know where they sold it was the Houghton Arms near Chorley

I went on a brewery trip years ago to Mitchells when it was in Lancaster. After teh trip we went into teh boozing room where it was free ale

I thought " I'll start on the weak stuff and work upwards" so first pint was one of their Dark Mild. it was absolutely delicious. Chocolatey, smooth, creamy, tasty... so nice in fact that I said sod it and stayed on it all night which for someone who likes his strong ales was as big a compliment as I can give it.

another night up in yorkshire whilst camping with some mates teh local pub had Old Peculiar on and it was in tip top condition. Lets say I wasn't that sure footed on teh way home that night :D

Theres been a few limited duration brews I've had over teh years that were superb as well. one year at the brit when I worked there they had a lovely Xmas ale, can't remember its name but it was like a minced pie to drink. I'm also partial to a pint of Fuggles IPA although its rare to find it on draught

In Kingston ... and I know that most of you don't get to Kingston all that often ... there is a pub called the Kingston Brewing Co.. It is a pub/micro brewery; a beautiful location down by the harbour ... they sell a wide range of commercial draught beers, and several they brew themselves. Dragon's Breath Ale is superb.

Got to be Lancaster Bomber, but Tiger runs it a close second, especially when icy cold and ambient temperature above 80 deg F

No bernie, its a mass produced thing of no redeeming quality....

just like most people drive boring cars or shop at national clothes chains where some of us prefer quality cars, bespoke tailors and quality ale!

Can't always find Black Sheep down South Manchester way, Jaysay, and a pint (or two) of Joey Holt's finest is a very acceptable alternative! ;)

No, Jaysay, it's up Cheetham Hill way, quite close to Strangeways. A real traditional brewery. Don't think they have any pubs north of Bury.

That's started me thinking about that Odham brewery, there was one once and it was a very short name. Can Remember Bodies being near Strangeways, that was a nice drink when it was brewed there.

Mid to late seventies cashy, and was in the old Drill Hall, there was about 14 tables and a special match table in a separate room. I remember it because I fitted the bottle coolers behind the bar, and I used to pop in for a game with Neil Payton. When it shut it moved to the Old Bakery on Green lane I think its called, just round the corner from he Bridge Pub, it was owned by a chap you was step father to Mark Boyd, was a brilliant snooker player when he was 13 or 14, made a 147 break when he was 14, think he lives in Ossy now, occasionally came in Ossy con or a game but ain't seen him for years now.

I remember Mark Boyd too Jaysay, hell of a player as a young un as you say, but then just seemed to fade away have not seen him for years, and i dont know where Neil Payton is these days either, never played snooker with him, but had many a battle on the Pool table! Last thing i recall about Neil was when he restored the figures in the Accrington Crib...but thats going back a while now!

The last time I heard from him he was living in Blackburn near the Mill Hill Club, I remember him staring a restoration business but that's ages ago. Back in the eighties I was his manager when he was on the pro Pool circuit, he was a member of the 3PO, did quite a lot of promotional work for Whitbreads, pool challenge nights all over the north west, I used to Ref the matches for him and help on the trick shot sessions
