1st LP you bought and played it until your Mum wanted to kill you!!!!

Back in the mid 60's I think it was "Beach Boys Greatest Hits" or "Simon and Garfunkle, Sounds of Silence" Mum told me if she heard "Hello Darkness My Old Friend" one more time, the 1st day and night that I bought it, she would kill me. Didn't think she would, it was 4 in the morning and she had to get up for work soon!!!! :theband:

Plastic Letters by Blondie.

Easter 1978.

Cost £3.99.

We were up in the Lakes water skiing, for a long weekend.

It drove me potty, not being able to play it for five whole days. Though it was never off the stereo, once we were back home, and I still love it.

That was the first L.P. I bought myself. Though I'd grown up playing my parents albums, which were mainly Elvis and jazz. Again two areas of music I still adore.

I couldn't afford LP records......but I drove my dad daft with 'Love me do' by the Beatles.
So much so that he cut the plug off my Dansette record player....and I tried to put a new one on and nearly electrocuted myself.

Don't think so, mate...Marshalls didn't open until until '68. Possibly Mary's (Blackburn Road) or the Co-op in Abbey Street?

Mine was "The Angry Young Them" by, predictably enough, Them. Played it until it was knackered...couldn't get enough of their singer, some surly looking sod by the name of Van Morrison.

Mrs Marshall was a good 'un. She knew she had a fair bit of competition, with Mary Mort a few doors down and she'd go the extra mile to get the record you wanted! :)

Top record shop - sold both new and used records. Accyweb member and Clayton End habituee Uncle Mick was a permanent fixture there in the 70's.

Re: 1st LP you bought and played it until your Mum wanted to kill you!!!!

The Disc and Tape was the best record shop in the late seventies.

At that time most albums were about four quid. Which if you take into account inflation, and the cost of buying music today, was relatively expensive, in relation to today's prices.

Was worth every penny though.

Scrittie Politti's first album Songs to Remember and my Japan album, Assemblage were the most frequently played. I used to play them over and over and over again.

But, my Mum used to do the ironing in the room next to my bedroom and after an hour or so of my 'suicide music' as she called it, she begged me to play my Bat out of Hell album. It was never, ever cool to admit that I liked Meat Loaf at the time, but I guess it's ok now.

This shop was not on the corner of Little blkbrn road and Abby St but was directly across from the Duke of Welly pub...maybe it was only in business for a few months.. I might have to accept that it was never there.. or only existed in some sort of parallel dimension.:)

April 2003
"
A life-sized bronze statue of Billy Fury is unveiled at the Museum of Liverpool Life

A life-sized bronze statue of rock legend Billy Fury will be the latest attraction at the museum from Easter Sunday 20 April 2003. Donated by The Sound of Fury – The Official Billy Fury Fan Club, the statue by Tom Murphy shows the Liverpool-born singer at the height of his fame in the 1960s.
Billy’s mother Jean Wycherley and brother Albie will be among those attending The Sound of Fury unveiling of the statue at an invitation-only event. Jean says: “This magnificent statue is a great tribute to Billy and we are thrilled that it will be a permanent attraction for people to see.”
Fan Club members from all over the world contributed to the £50,000 statue showing Billy performing his stage act.

He put on an album he had just bought that blew me away. The White Album from The Average White Band! AWB. Still one of the best albums I have ever heard and have it in the car to sing (badly) along to!!!! Before any cracks, the CD not a great record player on the back seat!!! ;););)

Not really an Album that I bought, but best part of the Lads in the unit did (Back in 1985) was Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms", you could hear the whole Album if you walked the length of the singleys Accommodation block. After so much exposure I didn't really feel like buying the Album. :) For me personally one of my favourite firsts would've been "The River" by Bruce Springsteen.

I've still got Transformer on CD!...Great!

I cant actually recall the first LP i bought but can remember my first Single it was called "To Whom it Concerns" by Chris Andrews, who had previously recorded "Yesterday Man" it would have been around 1965 or 66 so i was 8 or 9 yrs old! I got it from the shop under the viaduct on Blackburn Road!

Best Regards - Taggy
