Oh dear...looks like senile dementia has set in with you two.

'Hotpants' were 1971, not 1970.

My first years on the scene was 1962, when jiving was frowned on at Accy Con, Ballroom dancing only, jiving round the sides was regularly howled from the stage, then between 9-30 and 10 the jivers filled the whole floor whilst the Band was on their break. It wasn't long before Monday nights became a cult with Bernard presents, (Bernard was also steward at Stanley Supporters club Jazz club) The Lionel Morton Four, were resident, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, Herman's Hermits, Freddie and the Dreamers, and many many more the good old days:alright:

Instead of reminisce does anyone mind if I cry?

Just as randy but can't seem to pull them as well as I did in the sixties, (even the blind ones have some sort of warning on their sticks).

Please whatever you do don't grass me up by reading this to the really blind, that would ruin what little chance I actually have!:)

Sorry Looked through the thread, can't see anyone mentioning 50 either as a decade or a ladies age, perhaps you should ask Nursie for a fresh pair of underwear and stop getting so worked up? (Bless).

It wasn't just jiving frowned on. If you were waltzing or quickstepping, the MC on the stage was watching you all. If more than your hands touched he ran down the steps, pushed his way through the dancers and literaly pulled you apart. No smooching, necking or doing anything which might exite you!

Re: Best year(s) while living in Accy

necking? Smooching? - you need a visit from General Gordon, or better still General Booth.I bet you were the sort who whisked girls off through the back door to The Junction for a half of mild before returning and thinking you were in Paradise when you were actually in Paradise Street. If ever there was a mis-nomer, this was it.

We must have gone to a different Con Club. We jived and got pretty close during the waltzes (well, smooches). No-one ever tried to pull us apart and that was back in '56.
That was a pretty good year - steady GF, a good job, money in my pocket and an Ariel 350cc - loved tearing around Haslingden Old Rd or Grane Rd with the GF on the pillion, clinging on like a limpet.;)

We may have passed one another, I used to travel those roads on a 650 Triumph Thunderbird, in the late 50's. I used to like the bends on Hasi Old Rd, where you'd pay a pound an inch for what roads left, when you corner a bit too fast. Had to give up bike riding after I got a bullet in my left leg.

Back to thread-all good years in Accrington but some you remember more than others.
1958-I'd just got my first car, a 1931 Austin Seven from a scrap yard.Four of us went to Wales for a holiday and a back wheel fell of in the middle of the Menai Bridge. The traffic jam was awesome, we had to carry it off. Not a good start but then we met these four Welsh girls and it improved! Those mountain girls could eat an English boy alive and then look round for more! Yes ,I remember 58(just).

Although not born here, & having the advantage (?) of an Accrington education & growing up with the likes of you lot....
I did choose to move from Manchester (in '64) at age 19 & come & work here...
Whereupon, I met my current wife (44 yrs & still counting!!)
We now have 2 daughters, 2 sons in law, & 4 grandchildren from 16yrs down to 2.5yrs.
So, to get back to the thread title, I've got to say, my best years whilst living in Accy....

1964 to 2010

& hopefully, many more!!
