Thought some of you older members might like some reminders of the past.
The accy youth club one is of course old Joe Morts. 1958. The fishing one is a membership you had to get to fish the calder, and who can forget the Elite.

nice one terry spent many a happy hour up the elite, roland the one eyed slave, and bert were behind the counter in my day.just caught the tail end of joe morts first time i went up the stairs, stood on a guys foot by accident,he was leant on the wall at the top talking to mary, and got knocked down them, very painful stone steps, also very embarassing, funny now but not at the time.

Thanks cashman. I can remember the blokes face but couldn't remember his name (Bert from the Elite that is). I remember a few people falling down the stairs at Joe Morts. Some of which weren't accidental:D . But it was usually Joe on the door whilst Mary sorted out the records for the night. I used to have a couple in the pub next door before I went in:)

I think they went to 6 numbers when STD system came into use cashy, when I lived in Rosendale I had a 5 digit number and they added a 2 in front, I think, but I've slept a few times since then:rolleyes:

I was just going in St. Marys Centre on Sun Street Ossy when heard about Kennedy, surprising how people know what they were doing at that time

We had a phone put in just after the war and we were Accrington 2894. I think it changed to 32894 in the early 60s.
