Virus????
I'm having problems with my aunts pc. A few weeks ago, norton anti-virus decided it was having a serious internal error!!! hmm. Now since removing noton as instructed, i can't access the net with Microsoft browsers. Mozzilla aint a problem, but she uses msn for ease with the email etc.
Anybody any suggestions??? |

Re: Virus????
This could be something that has hijacked IE. What do you get when you try to open MSN?
Can I just say that particularly if you use XP but for ANYONE please do not ever, even for a minute, go online without a Firewall AND antivirus up and running. Its akin to leaving your door unlocked and posting a note in the Obs that you aren't going to be home for a fortnight. Ian |
Re: Virus????
It should be mandatory when purchasing an internet ready PC that advice is given regarding virus protection etc. I've come across people who don't even know what a Firewall is.

Re: Virus????
Let alone knowing how to configure or test that it is effective!
OK, so i'm a techy and this stuff interests me but I can understand that there are people who computers are a complete black box to so ths stuff is really beyond their understanding. It doesn't help that people are subjected to software with such open security risks in the first place. Ian |
Re: Virus????
It doesn't help either when you talk to people at PC World etc who look at you with a glazed blank expression as if you are speaking a foreign language. Surely to work in such a place they should know what customers are talking about?

Re: Virus????
That is probably one of the biggest learning poits I can give. The VAST majority of Pc world assistants have less clue than my Siobhan and at the moment she is only interested in the content of breasts.
I am always happy to answer questions either on the public board or via PM. Please feel free if you want advice etc. I have nothing to gain so my answers will be totally unbiased. Ian |
Re: Virus????
I can't believe that they employ clueless idiots. If they want people to sell their machines, surely they should employ people who actually know what they are talking about.
Although I guess a lot of people who know what they want wouldn't go to PC World in the first place. It took me a good couple of hours to clear up the mess that they left behind on one of my wife's friend's computer. I gave up in the end and had to restart it from scratch - they had Norton, but the numpty had disabled it and the firewall, and there were around 80+ viruses, etc |
