As long as you have finished your contract there should be no problem.

When I uninstalled AOL from my PC a while ago it really messed my registary up so a good cregistary leaner is recommended for after.

Cancelling should be fairly straightforward although they may well pester you with questions about why you want to leave and maybe even make you tempting offers to try to keep you.

Like Mr. D says, uninstalling it is the challenge.

Re: sky broadband

yep, AOL install software actually removes stuff that every other ISP uses so its hard to get online with anyone else.

You may need to reinstall a few windows components but its perfectly doable

As Willow says , they will desperately try to keep you though :)

Has anyone on here actually moved to Sky Broadband. Looks too good to be true pricewise, would rather know before I switch.

Re: sky broadband

If you are already on a broadband package with AOL you may need a migration number. its a code that allows BT to swap you from one supplier to another. You need to get this from AOL and give it to SKY

Re: sky broadband

cheers for thats entwisi, will do that.marg.

Ian, what is the box they send you? Their T&C's say you have to use it and allow them to update the software in it.

Its a standard Netgear router with a big SKY logo on the top.

That sound good then. They say it is yours as soon as you get it but the software in it is theirs and that they will change it if they feel like it. I think they maybe getting mixed up with their Sky TV Digiboxes

Re: sky broadband

yep, As far as I know there is no way to do a remote firmware upgrade with them. (Unlike Oranges 'Livebox')

Yuk, do you have one of those? I don't like the idea of an ISP playing with your perfectly working box. Then again Vonage can mess with my D-Link VOIP box and I cant get into it at all. It comes preconfigured. You just plug it into your router and plug a phone into it and hey presto the phone works.

Re: sky broadband

Just because it came with my broadband package doesn't mean I'm using it. In fact currently its at "Harwood Red Towers"

I have a nice little Linksysy WRT54 which of course uses Linux for its firmware and can even be flashed to a completely open source alternative firmware enabling enterprise standard routing and extras like Samba clients and the like.

to 99.99% of accyweb you just said "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah"

samba.. not heard that in yrs...but then i kinda moved away from that side of things.... probably best if i stuck wth it though.. but then again..each to his own :)

Re: sky broadband

I know :D

Good innit!

Neil 12-01-2007 11:47

Re: sky broadband

Does it have a USB printer port that they use for a hard drive with the linux firmware?

What do you use as a modem, or do they do a WRT54 with an ADSL modem built in?

entwisi 12-01-2007 12:11

Re: sky broadband

it has an inbuilt modem. As for USB, nope they can use samba to mount Network storage, the linux firmware runs from EPROM.

Neil 12-01-2007 14:00

Re: sky broadband

Its a shame it does not have a USB port. I have seen routers that have a USB port to connect to a PC as well as ethernet ports. In fact those little BT ones do.

entwisi 12-01-2007 14:29

Re: sky broadband

some have built in Print servers so you can connect USB printers directly to them for sharing across the network
