When I uninstalled AOL from my PC a while ago it really messed my registary up so a good cregistary leaner is recommended for after. |
Re: sky broadband
Cancelling should be fairly straightforward although they may well pester you with questions about why you want to leave and maybe even make you tempting offers to try to keep you.
Like Mr. D says, uninstalling it is the challenge. |
Re: sky broadband
yep, AOL install software actually removes stuff that every other ISP uses so its hard to get online with anyone else.
You may need to reinstall a few windows components but its perfectly doable As Willow says , they will desperately try to keep you though :) |
Re: sky broadband
Has anyone on here actually moved to Sky Broadband. Looks too good to be true pricewise, would rather know before I switch.

Re: sky broadband
Ordered it for next door. (Old dears)
Not migrating from anyone else but it was slick enough. Got their router just waiting for BT to do their stuff |
Re: sky broadband
which one are you opting for?
Base mid max connect? |

Re: sky broadband

DAve, its already setup, just waiting for their username/password letter and teh ADSL sync light to come on |
Re: sky broadband

|
Re: sky broadband
hi, thanks for your advise, think i,ll bite the bullet and go ahead with getting sky broadband, will go for the max option, cheers once again. marg.

Re: sky broadband
If you are already on a broadband package with AOL you may need a migration number. its a code that allows BT to swap you from one supplier to another. You need to get this from AOL and give it to SKY

Re: sky broadband
yep, As far as I know there is no way to do a remote firmware upgrade with them. (Unlike Oranges 'Livebox')

Re: sky broadband
Just because it came with my broadband package doesn't mean I'm using it. In fact currently its at "Harwood Red Towers"
I have a nice little Linksysy WRT54 which of course uses Linux for its firmware and can even be flashed to a completely open source alternative firmware enabling enterprise standard routing and extras like Samba clients and the like. |

samba.. not heard that in yrs...but then i kinda moved away from that side of things.... probably best if i stuck wth it though.. but then again..each to his own :) |
Re: sky broadband
I know :D
Good innit! |
Re: sky broadband
Does it have a USB printer port that they use for a hard drive with the linux firmware?
What do you use as a modem, or do they do a WRT54 with an ADSL modem built in? |
Re: sky broadband
it has an inbuilt modem. As for USB, nope they can use samba to mount Network storage, the linux firmware runs from EPROM.
|
Re: sky broadband
Its a shame it does not have a USB port. I have seen routers that have a USB port to connect to a PC as well as ethernet ports. In fact those little BT ones do.
|
Re: sky broadband
some have built in Print servers so you can connect USB printers directly to them for sharing across the network
